Economic retard here. Can someone please give me a basic run-through of how economics work? I don't even know where to start. I have no clue how the stock market works or anything like that.

There are limited resources (time/space/energy/affection/whatever) and there is competition for them. Supply and demand.
Economics tries to describe the process.
What helps me visualize this is thinking of it in terms of biology.
Why do some species survive and thrive and others die off?
Why are they evolving at all, why are there different species?
It's about competition which leads to efficiency and diversity.

People trade goods and services with each other in order to meet their needs and wants. If people have especially good services and goods to trade then others will offer them money to help them do it better,in return for a cut of the profits.
