Background:
Canada fag here looking at the end of his economy (I work in oil and gas). My company is cutting wages and being general assholes. Currently they won't hire me, but have been contracting through another bullshit company for 3 years. I like my job so I am working with my contracting idiots to get a raise since I think I can make more elsewhere and my company claims they made the changes based on current market value.

Question:
How do I find out my current market value? Looked at glassdoor and a few other sites but generally can't find a title that matches my experience. Most of my jobs have been shitcatching and recovery rather than being actually assigned a weekly task so my job title has never reflected what I do. Managers seem to like my work so I think I am employable.

Is there a way to do this properly? Something like Degree x experience x direct experience x continuing education = $$$

I fucking feel for you, Anon. I don't have a lot to add, other than see if you can go to the states and work their fields or go to trade school, we're all being told Fort Mac will be a goldmine for electricians soon.

what I do still has shortage

I don't work in the patch, nor does my skill set depend on oil and gas

Also, why I am checking. Most things says I am underpaid, but it does seem like an asshole thing to do to just start sending out resumes cause times are tough.

I am pretty comfy actually. You want to work look horribly north in other industries (mining for example). Get your red seal quicker with the bullshit long hours and return to civilization.
