I think what my anonymous friend here is saying is that there are an army of people out there that already know how to do useful market research, who contribute their opinions to large fund holders and who actively trade in the markets you want to get involved with.

With these people already setting the prices for the markets that you want to start researching, the price discovery for the instruments in those markets has already been done and the markets are largely in balance.

it might help future anons if maybe you define which markets you're looking to research, what experience you might have outside your new desire to do useful market research and what your goals are ( long term investment, day trading, statistical arbitrage, etc )

Alright, it was stupid not to make things clearer.


Basically, I am an app developer who wants to write free software for the play store. I want to be aware of how much the various genres and sub-genres are downloaded, the distribution of said downloads and expected features for apps in each. I am not in the business of having an idea, going "fuck it" and dropping the money just to see what happens.
