How much of this is necessary to follow? All I want is

>retirement account
>emergency fund
>credit card
>regular savings
>regular checking

Can I leave out all the rest?
Are 401k's important? also what about ira's? Do I need a trad or roth? What if I don't have one? Thank you

Everything besides the additional company 401k box in blue is absolutely necessary.

Get a Roth and max it out every single year. Huge tax savings when you turn 60.

Savings account are a scam.
>>

What do you suggest in place of a savings account?
>>
>>1358482
a 401k, IRA, or if you already filled those up, a taxable brokerage.

Alternatively give the money to me and Il'l double it in a year.

srs.

Etfs are neat, you have some liquidity while also making a little bit of money. If you are about to buy a house or something then put it in a money market account. Savings is worse than useless though.

What about emergency funds? I read somewhere that you shouldnt put your emergency find in a CD, but in a ''high yield interest account''?
>>
>>1359121
Is there some kind of sticky I can read on all this? Im watching a bunch of khan academy videos to explain all of it, reddit's personal finance sticky doesnt really help all that much

Be a pro. Put your emergency fund into your Roth IRA (money market, don't buy shares) when you can't otherwise max out the contribution.

Contributions can be withdrawn tax free, but you can convert the $'s into live retirement savings down the line.

What does maxing out the contribution mean?
>>
>>1359193
So how many of these accounts should I have?
Should I have a traditional ira AND a roth? Or just one?
