So i'm 24 and i want to qualify for a cook. Planning on going to a cooking school. How is the job market and how's the pay? Is this a profitable route? I love food and already know how to cook some basic stuff so i think it's alright for me.

make a food truck, if you're living in australia... get some good ameri ingrediants and make an exact replica of in n out, no one has come close to that burger yet and you'll profit huge if you travel around.

6 months on the job, you'll run circles around fresh interns.

No Matter how much they pay you, you're NEVER going to get more than minimum wage when you find out how many hours your working.
For the first 2-3 years... 16 hour days are common, 90+ hours a week...
A LOT of kitchens with good reputation have "chefs" lined up at the door to take your job.
Its a Dog eat Dog world...People will stab you in the back to get ahead.
2 of my good friends died around 27-28yo from heart attacks in the kitchen...
others with kids often said this like "i forget what my kids look like ;__;"
Unless you marry into money, or already have it so you can run your own place.
