What is the job market like in Canada/ US for accountants and CPA's. Is this a good career choice for me?

Yes probably but remember CPA is quite different from accountant. As far as the job market, I can only comment on US, where firms are constantly hiring for this skillset. In my school, pretty much everyone went to one of the Big 4, where you'll have a pretty good career assuming you stick to it.
