Is it still worth it to open a vanguard account if I don't have income right now?
I could dump about $5-10k into it but I wouldn't be able to put anything into it afterwards for about 2 years
Yes. Open a Roth IRA with them and max it out 5500 each year. 3 years from now you'll be ready to add more.

>Each Year
I do not have that each year.
I have $10000 cash right now. I will not have any income outside of basic living expenses for the next 2 years.
Unlikely. Without a steady income, it's probable that you'll need or want to withdraw the money in the short term. Maybe some emergency will arise, or maybe some shiny toy will catch your eye. Either way, you'll raid your account, which is the worst thing you can do for your long-term performance.
Smart investing requires two things:
1. Steady income; and
2. Adequately sized emergency fund.
Once you've accomplished these prerequisites, then you'll be ready to invest like a grownup.

Ok well put 5500 in this year. And in 6 months put in 4500. It's not difficult math.
