Most engineers never go to management. Most people in management for engineering companies are MBA bean counters or liberal arts student. Few engineers go to management positions. Most engineers are happy being engineers. They shuffle around in the industry until they have their niche and retire.

Management is a meme, most people end up in middle management and make less money than the engineers below them.
