I have a good buddy that's an ex con. He's washing dishes at a restaurant but wants to learn a trade or get into oil rig type work. Should I suggest he go to Alaska or something? Where can he go that hires felons to do high paying dangerous work? Pipeline, oil rig, fishing industry? Need advice.

In general they don't hire felons for dangerous work because they aren't trustworthy people.
He could go do menial stuff like continue to do dish washing or fish gutting in a remote work site like a cannery or lumber camp somewhere in the PNW.
I know a guy who was in jail then started working as a welder in the oilsands, but now the oil industry is fucked so there's no chance of getting into that now
