Why did Bitcoin Core charge me $37 in one transaction fee? i was sent $150 worth of bitcoin and $37 was removed..... can anyone tell me why?

bitcoin core apparently sets the default transaction fee incredibly high to rip off new people who don't know to go into the settings and manually change the transaction fee to the minimum

but you can still turn the fees off or pay a really low minimum. it's just the fact that they set the default to a super high price is what pisses me off. new people don't know to change it until they already get screwed
