pretty much. the goal is to cut your losing trades short when you're wrong. and let your winning trades run. this way even if you're only right 50% of the time you can still be making money as long as your profit targets are further than your stops.

That's not right at all, the idea is to stop your wins at a certain percentage every time rather than chase them and potentially lose everything. This isn't gambling. Once you buy shares, you're no longer a day trader, you're now a risk manager. You have to learn to think like this or you'll get slaughtered. It may take months or even years, but you're just playing with luck, and it will run out.
