I hate this meme, not everyone does tax or works for a big firm. I work for a smaller firm and if you want you can always branch into different rolls in a company that doesn't involve accounting. My job right now is great and proof of that is I have every second friday off and only work 8-9 hour days. You just have to be willing to make a little less, I make only 60k a year right now but it's still a comfortable job. You also have the prospect of working from home for a lot of different companies. You don't like accounting though so don't fucking do it.

I don't know how it is in USA, but over here in Europe (italianfag here) accountants have a pretty easy and sweet gig going on once they upgrade from ''low'' (ragioniere - standard accountant) to ''high'' (''commercialista'' - a protected profession that is essentially a specialized accountant that passed a state exam), but I sincerely don't know anybody who after 5-10 years in the field earns less than 30/40k euro/yearly in the position of ragioniere, which you can fill immediately after vocational high school.

Should I get CGA, CA, or CPA?

CPA here. It sucks. Wish I could do something else. Question is, what? I hate so much about work - the dumb bitches and autistic assholes I have to work with. Today I got fired from a contract job. Now I have to act like I'm grateful for the time I worked there.

Don't even know why I was fired. Work politics is shit. People expect u to work overtime bc muh deadlines. I don't know what I'll do or should have done. Just know this shit sucks.

Accounting is for people who aren't particularly good at anything, but they can put up with mind numbing work and get paid pretty good IF they can get into the Big 4. Having said that, a guy I know's mom was an accountant and literally suffered a mental breakdown from looking at contextless numbers all day. That's why accounting firms offer sabbaticals every 3 years.

I'm finance master race which at least is somewhat interesting since it involves predicting the future and requires competence at math
