Anyone know if this coin is worth anything, found it in my change but never seen one before?

Whats the chance of finding something valuable in your normal change?

Its interesting you found it in your pocket change, its a fairly uncommon coin actually, part of a larger set that was sold as a promo but not meant for circulation. Finding that in your change is pretty rare, consider yourself lucky, sometimes people spend these coins because they dont know what they are.

Value isn't probably that much, more than the 20 cents face value though, i'd say a few dollars.

A friend that worked at a large bank said he occasionally found proof silver coins that people handed in, round 50c's, other uncommon non circulating coins and on one occasion a gold coin. Because the bank technically just counts them at face value, he was able to walk off with some nice coins for no more than face value (much less than what they were worth). So yes, there is a tiny chance of finding something valuable in your change, but its tiny, because anyone with an ounce of coin knowledge would have taken it out of circulation already.

I got some new coins since the last thread that i might upload later on and some interesting notes.

Wait, last thread? Does /biz/ have threads about numismatics regularly? I suppose there isn't enough interest for a general, but is nice to know there's some interest.

Thanks for the info anon, guess ill just keep it, its kinda cool i guess.

I've seen a bunch of other interesting coins in my change, a few coloured ones and others i haven't seen much before.

Maybe in like 50 years or so it will be worth something.

Not really, there's some occasionally maybe once a month. We get a bunch of replies but normally die out at around 150 replies.

I make a new thread when i get some new stuff in, maybe once every 2-3 months.

Yeh, the colored ones are cool and quite uncommon, again not worth a whole lot but are cool and collectible none the less.

Im not much of a Australian coin collector, but pic related is what i currently have.

Else you could make your own numismatic imageboard on ibchan.com

Coin related bump.

Some really small coins from Lesotho, pencil is included for scale. I think i got them in a bundle with other African coins off some guy on Numista, not worth anything but cool collectible value.

Some hobo screamed at me about how Wells Fargo kidnapped his daughter and sold her to the Germans for access to some guys offshore account. I offered him some change to leave me alone and he handed me these.
I know it's nothing special, but a Burger who never left his home state finds these interesting
