Even discounting the fact that inflation will make a billion dollars a much less significant sum of money, it really isn't that much.
If you can start a business that can generate earnings of ~$85m a year, if there's good reason to believe it will be a viable long-term business it should really be worth at least a billion dollars at 15x earnings; an entirely reasonable multiple.
$85m in annual earnings isn't that much. There are 7.3 billion people in the world; I'm sure you can come up with a way to serve some very small fraction of them (a few million would probably suffice) in such a way as to generate maybe $400m - $800m in revenue and $85m in earnings.
