Why don't PhD:s hold the same weight in the business world as it does in other fields? If you take Economics, Statistics, Engineering... having a PhD gives you an extra needed edge to even be taken seriously.

But in the business world the most extreme cases are positions that require the applicant to have an MBA. Never have I seen anyone even caring if the applicant has a PhD. Why is it like this in business?

a PhD in engy does give you advantages, you're taken even more seriously, but ONLY if you can show that you've been doing stuff apart from studying.
the don't need an almost 30yr old who hasn't worked anything useful
>>
In a business world you probably want a DBA over a PhD

Although Putin is a PhD in Econs and it did him well.
>>
Because going for a PhD is the route to science stuff not the actuall shit.

Because business doesn't actually require any technical skill.
>>

basically being technically smart in business isn't that useful because most business decisions are made by people with no idea or skills

>PhD in Soviet econ
So, a potato farmer?

business doesnt require studies - you should study something in university which interests you, then if you go into business you have the rest of your life to learn it.

Ph.D. in Finance is usually quite respected, and it's quite close to a business degree (more technical and focused).

Note!

It's not enough to just have the PhD though, you need some published works.

I guess in the biz world IT mostly comes down to experience and knowing how to sell your product and your knowledge. There are very few jobs that require a really hard scientific approach that cant be done without a masters degree.

Top advertising execs have phd's in something.
Top financial consultants have phd's in econ.
Top cyber coders at the DoD have phds.

Realize the issue here is Top, not entry level Neets. You don't go for a PHD until you are late 30s.

And you will not get anywhere in business without an MBA. Don't call it an extreme case otherwise your 30s will be spent working for someone who is 26 and just got out of Chicago Booth's school of Entrepreneurship.

>Why don't PhD:s hold the same weight in the business world as it does in other fields?
Because entrepreneurship is a world of result and not fancy titles.

>BS in EE
MBA is overstated. Im a Firmware engineer and the lead FW engineer does not even have a collage degree. Granted things are changing and its different from company to company but if you have a body of work and patents you can do what ever the fuck you want. Also its good to get the business to pay for your MS degree.
