What advice does /biz/ have for teenagers like myself? What would you have told your teenage self if you had the opportunity. I am asking from a financial perspective. Life tips are appreciated as well :)
>>
>>1277032

I'd advice you to never take advice from the internet.
>>
>>1277064
I concur
>>
>>1277064
Soooooo i should just ignore that? What a fucking paradox
>>
>>1277087
>Soooooo i should just ignore that?
as long as you ignore all other advice from the internet, yes.
>>
>>1277032
There's a 99.99% chance you won't get rich quick. Don't buy into any claims or schemes of the nature. Hell, get off of this board.

Read, build skills, build connections, build a business.
>>
>>1277095
Every procrastinator's dream, I'm definetly doing that later.
>>
>>1277095
What about trading? I've seen so many people get rich from it fast but I still think its some sort of scam so I haven't got involved
>>
>>1277032
my teenage self?
don't fuck uni up you retard!
save money put aside preferably half of what you earn!
educate yourself on economics and finance!
diversify your investments!
pay off student loan as soon as you can!
never listen to what /biz/ shills!
>>
>>1277118
also:
forget pussy! it's not that great get a fleshlight instead!
>>
>>1277114
... you must either be painfully stupid or a good troll, and it hurts thinking that what you've just said is genuine, so I'll go with the latter. P.S. congrats on your upcoming (you)s.
>>
>>1277118
"Never listen to what /biz/ shills".
This is probably the golden rule on /biz/.
>>
Want to start investing but I do t know shit, were do I start? Also my brother said he made 15k in 6 months doing options what is it?
>>
>>1277032
Take all your savings and put it in bonds. Bonds bonds bonds.

fucking poor reliant retarded indigent

The safest way to get rich is to be a doctor or lawyer. It's also the easiest way to be respected and valued as a human being.

People often claim not to like lawyers, but if you're in front of them wearing a nice suit, they go right back into "yes sir" mode. Still, being as doctor comes out ahead, because everyone needs them.

Study one of these. Get established in your twenties. Invest your enormous salary in a mix of picked stocks and index funds. Start a private practice or firm in your thirties. Have a kid who can play Chopin and take over the firm.
>>
>>1277130
I am way too bored not to reply to this, you fucking wonder of a human, "your mother eats shit" that is not what an anglo person would say, where do you come from ladd?
>>
>doing options what is it?

Learn to google.

Aside from that:
Dont get into debt.
Literally every "lolol crazy returns in a safe investment" ever is a scam.
Dont get into debt.
>>
>>1277132
I've always liked law, but the part about learning grammar to a perfection alsongside the huge amount of bulk information that needs to be learned kind of turned me off. You kind of also need social skills and especially talking skills, abilities which I have not harvested to a maximum yet. Interesting advice, thanks for the contribution :)
>>
>>1277132
To continue, you should have enough money to buy income producing assets, e.g. buy a house, rent it out, receive rent.

Average return for things like this is 5%. Not high, not low, a fairly safe number to bet on.

So a house worth 100K should get you around 5K per year.

Assuming you want to live comfortably without needing to work, you'd want around 40K per year, so that would require around 800,000 dollars in income producing assets.

Assuming you get paid 150K per year as a doctor, and live on 50K, you can afford to buy freedom in 8 years on the job. Of course, you'd buy as you go along instead of putting all your eggs in one basket.
>>
>>1277139
True. But if it was easy, it wouldn't pay well.
>>
>>1277140
That's some deep into the future thinking, I am not calculated to think that far out into the future.
>>
>>1277147
not completely, if you're shit at it it doesn't pay well, if suply is too high it won't pay well. I am looking to study something that people are ignoring, something with a very low supply.
>>
>>1277140
6% is a better measure since you can get that much from U.S Treasury bonds (though its not income), or even 8% if you want to go with index funds.

Teenagers never listen, but save money. Early and often. Best/easiest way is to have it automated (direct deposit a % of your check to a savings account. ANY percentage is better than no percentage)

Stop taking pictures of your genitals and sending them to people or keeping them on the cloud.

Stop posting everything you do on twitter or facebook. You will look back at the shit you are doing now and realize you are an idiot. Your future employer will creep on you and decide the same and not hire you or will be less likely to see you professionally.

Stop using your goddam phone during work hours. You should and likely will get fired for that.

Think about what it is you want to accomplish so when the time comes you can be direct, honest and decisive.
>>
>>1277064

came here to post this
>>
>>1277032
Listen up, dickhead: I'm going to tell you how to win the game at your young teenage assed age.

1. You can be young with no money but you cannot be old with no money. You are going to get old.

2. Put money aside for your financial survival. Don't count on a company, institution or government to do it for you.

3. Everytime you want a fucking tattoo save up $2500 first.

4. Most people in life want to take advantage of you with the exception of attractive, big titted women. (Titty bar women excluded.)

5. Never make fun of the ugliest woman in the company because she's probably fucking the CEO.

6. Start a small business before you ever start trading stocks or commodities. You'll need the business' cash flow to pay the losses on your learning curve.

7. 90% of success is just showing up to work regularly and on time.

8. Expect to be fired, laid off or furloughed from your career stops at least 6 times in 30 years.

9. Don't drink alcohol at company events. Don't sign a contract under neon lights.

10. Never ever have sex with someone in your company's employ. Ever.

11. Never wear soccer outfits to work if they include dayglo ornge shoes and a flat brim ball cap.
>>
>>1277332
Your first two points are good. The rest is some of the shittiest advice I've ever read on here.

- Don't get a girl pregnant.
- Get certifications all the time, it's super easy and companies love them, and you've been practicing all your life taking tests so you'll be ready for them.
- Do one thing until it's finished instead of getting distracted
- Save all your cash
- Don't go into business with family

Work your ass off, save everything. Get like 1 or 2 things you really like. Like the new iPad or some shit like that and just save. Save and save and save and save. Dont fuck around with your dumbass friends. They will not be around for long. Work your ass off, take all the over-time you can. Save. Dont be a dumbass and buy fast food or go out to eat or buy some dumbass overpriced shoes. Everyone your age is dumb. You may think they're smart, they aren't. All your moron teachers will say you have to go to college, you don't. Work. Save. And when you're not doing that, eat healthy, hike, walk, floss your fucking teeth, dont be a fatass, and smile.
Read the books they tell you are full of shit. Don't respect the people they tell you to respect. This is your life. No one else's. They don't have a say unless you let them. And never ever vote Democrat.

1.- Save, any percentage you can, but save. You'll know when it's time to use it.
2.- Pick Economy/Finance or Programming and learn the most you can from internet. If you can do both.
3.- Start going to the gym, brush you teeth, take a shower, get a nice haircut, dress well, anything that can make you more attractive.
4.- Work on your personality, be more charismatic, smile more.
5.- Talk to everybody, literally. Try to meet everyone and know everyone, it goes from the goes girls to your wealthy neighbor. Always salute them.

Learn the concept of the time value of money. Understand how it can work in your favor or against you depending on your financial situation.

Learn how to calculate loan payments.

Learn how to budget, and emphasize saving early on in your career.

Define your long term goals, and learn how to break them down into actionable, manageable short term goals with concrete kpis/performance measurements.

Feel free to ask questions if you'd like; I'll check back periodically.
>>
>>1277032
Be born 30 years ago
>>
>>1277148
If you want to be successful, you need to decide for yourself what that looks like to you, so you can begin working toward that end goal. If you're not willing to do that at age 18, you're going to wind up just like 50% of college grads who go to school without an end game in mind, and come out of it without any long term career prospects because they thought a piece of paper they spent a lot of time and money on would automatically land them a job.

My best advice for you is figure out why you want to attend college, and if the answer doesn't include a specific area of study for a specific reason, consider not going to college immediately. I'm dead serious.

What advice would I give my teenage self?

>you are smarter than those guys you associate with - they will hold you back - they will disappoint you, betray you, and your life will become a really bad ghetto movie. You will get in situations you wouldn't believe, and see things that can't be unseen. Continue like this, and you will have a criminal record by 17, be homeless 3 times, will own nothing, be in debt, and will attempt suicide several times before 30, culminating in a psychotic breakdown and being outcast by your family. Those losers will all be dead, in jail, or junkies anyway. Lose that Messiah complex - you can't save them. Shit gets deeper - walk away now.

>seriously just start dealing weed ASAP. You smoke it erryday and listen to rap music anyway, and you're not even a nigger. The risks will be worth it by the time you're 25, cops won't care anymore. It will become almost impossible to get arrested even for low-level dealing. You will earn more money and clout than in any minimum wagecuckery shit you are destined for.

>read 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' - fuck textbooks, you need a book you will read and understand, this is deliberately written so a 9-year old can understand it, and you have to start somewhere. From there, start on a book a week, then a book a day.

>Don't bury the fact you suffer from ADHD, deal with it, learn more about it and your strengths and weaknesses.

>WALK AWAY FROM THE 95% - don't do what they do, say what they say, think like them, etc

>be your own worst critic - 'the steel bar thinks itself as being harshly burned in a furnace, and cruelly beaten with a hammer. The samurai sword looks back and knows why...'
>>
>>1277820
Additional -

>fuck fashion, fads, most music and movies and TV and vidya games and porn. It's 95% horseshit. Understand that your ADHD and social anxiety will make you obsess over this shit.

>start learning martial arts immediately. Kickboxing has a ton of hot chicks and you can infiltrate social circles and lose your anxiety early on. You'll be less of a pussy but less arrogant (which is fuelled by your insecurity) once you get beat down properly and know how to channel your anger and control it properly. Your big mouth will get you into trouble.

I know the basic concepts of the inaccurate science of economy, I know absolutely nothing about finance, so I would like to start reading on the matter, but I'll widen my horizons by listening to bizfag chats. Investopedia is a great resource for finance related basics. Also, khan academy has a whole mess of YouTube videos illustrating all types of finance concepts and principles. Those are good places to start.

If you're just looking for enough finance to get you through daily life, reading "the millionaire next door" might be enough. If you want to retire early enough to enjoy yourself, you'll need to live well within your means, which means applying rigorous budgeting and saving. A good book to help illustrate the philosophy behind this lifestyle is "your money or your life". It really helped me understand how saving and budgeting help you to take control of your future.

Actual advice: live like you're poor now, live rich later.

Step 1: Get a job. Any job is better than no job.

2: put first 1k into savings.

3. 1k is your new 0. Never dip below for anything. Act like you will get a fee.

4. Open a Roth IRA immediately. Take at least 1/2 your paycheck, and invest into income mutual funds.

By investing all excess money, you will have to sacrifice living large in your youth. However. You will be able to retire early, and retire rich.

Btw, once your checking hits 2k, thats your new 0.
Good luck m80

Sure thing. Here's a pretty accessible video that I found helpful as a twenty year old who just recently became interested in personal finance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgVg4hv10YM&ab_channel=WoodysGamertag
>>
nice tits
>>
>>1281112
Nice, kinda like what I'm wanting to get into, but I don't really know what or how to invest in shit. From that video, it appears that I just keep buying shares every month, and leave them alone. I'm assuming that this is supposed to be done with a diverse portfolio, not sure what the easiest way to do that is though.

The return in those investments is done yearly though, right? The idea of buying every month / paycheck is simply to make up for the fluctuations in the price, though I also assume that I can attempt to wait for the price to go back down again if something truly is 2x than it was 2 weeks ago.
>>
>>1281135
Sorry, should have linked the second video. It's a two-parter. You can open up an index fund with a respected investment company like Vanguard or Fidelity. And yea, once you've opened an account you just set aside a certain amount from your earnings every month. They'll handle all the autismo financial minutiae for you.

And honestly I'm not sure when you get your money, I just opened an account myself. I'm sure it'd be easy to find out though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGSs7Uy-8mU&ab_channel=WoodysGamertag
>>
>>1281148
Ohh cool. A friend that knows about this shit told me about Vanguard, too, though he was recommending me ETFs, as apparently those are nice for finance illiterates like me.

I'll saving about 1950 burgers starting in about 3 months, then 3160 a year later, then 3814 the following one and so on for a couple more years. I'm hoping to fuck off back to my shithole after a while, but it seems like this needs more than 5-7 years of investment so I'll have to look into maintaining the account while not living in the US anymore.
>>
>>1281158
Where are you from? There'll be investment companies in your home country too. Are you an exchange student or something?

And yea, I'm a novice when it comes to personal finance too. It's exciting to learn about and feel like I'm contributing to my future though. Saving money and investing conservatively is what sets rich people apart from poor cucks who blow every paycheck on iphones and luxuries and shit.
>>
>>1281171
No, I'm not a student. I got a developer job offer in the US this week. I'm from Tacoland, but I'll be getting paid in dollars so I'd rather invest in that which will probably keep getting stronger compared tot he peso. Not sure yet if it's the right decision or not. Honestly, with 1M burgers I would be set for life here in Mexico, but it takes a fuckton of time to get to that.

Funny that you mention the iphone. I'll probably be buying one later. But I rarely spend money as it is, I'll get that phone, a new keyboard (about 1000-1500 usd) over there so I can continue composing, a nifty VST (699 USD) and some other shit, but overall I'll be buying about 5k worth of things that will be used for 5+ years. Practically everything else, over 200k+ during those 5 years will go to investments.

Advice to my younger self.

>bang every girl that wanted it in high school, always wear a condom
>buy a house in the city you go to university
>do university the same way socially, but get better grades
>start saving money when you started working

I'm doing pretty ok for myself at the moment. I'm a STEM PhD student, 30k of student loans which I'm paying even though they're in deferment.
