They say the economy is doing betrer. Although retail isn't picking up. Why?
I suspect internet shopping plays a big role. You can buy things directly from china cheaper than retail sometimes

This. From what I see, with a small retail business and a part-time job in grocery (in addition to full time), nobody knows how to spur sales. I can't get people to buy quality/desirable stuff no way no how and am slowly winding down. So slowly...I want my living room back but it'll be 2018 until I'm out from under enough inventory.
In grocery, they're just throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks. They're stuffing the aisles with more shipping displays, putting multiple different brands of the same item on the end caps (a huge nono in the past), and letting employees alter sales terms (buy one get one becomes get one half off, offering brand X at brand Y price if brand Y sold out, etc) in addition to older promotions like gas points and price matching. But we are moving less food than ever it seems.
Personally, I don't know when I'll be able to shop again. I don't see ever getting a new car. I still can't afford a flat TV and I can't see spending on a new computer or tablet either. Hell, the last big purchase I made was a lawnmower, a push model at that, because my last one seized up. I can't be the only one stuck like this...

Almost every fortune 500 company is using debt to buy back company stock.

I'm new to /biz/ but this sounds like a classic pump and dump. America is pumping it's own economy up, but who benefits from the dump?
Biflation is still going on so most consumer spending has been directed into basics like food, rent / housing, and health insurance. Prices in those segments have been rising rapidly, while average wages have been flat.

Stock buybacks are not some kind of "FALSE" moves. It's fucking real money going to stocks that's it. If your economy is in the situation companies buy back their stocks, then the economy is in that situation kek, and then the stocks are the best option.

By the stock market is inflated I believe he means that its price is unusually high compared to the market fundamentals.
