I have a decently large purchase coming up ($3K-$4K) and a credit card with a $6K limit. Should I charge it all to the credit card for those sweet sweet points and then pay the balance at the end of the month, or do I charge only $1.8K to the card to stay at %30 utilization and avoid any dings on my score (~750 atm)?
pay the balance
one time swing in utilization does almost nothing to credit score

Great. Thanks, anon.
You mean points as credit score? I charge everything on credit to rack up miles. If your purchase is eligible try it out. My vacation every year at least one of me or my wife's ticket is paid by air miles.

what? why would you lose anything if you go above 30%
is this some murrican thing again?

It hurts tour credit score if you keep the balance above 30 percent of total revolving credit available. Inter statement period swings don't matter.

based on what i read if you immediately settle the balance not wait for the settlement close date then the charges will not affect your score one way or the other.
