Finally going to start my own bank account so that my parents can't look at my finances anymore. Any advice for a young lad? Which banks are good for your first bank account? Should I just join a credit union?

Store your money in ethereum. Get an ethereum debit card.
If you're just the average consumer, pretty much any bank is fine. Just look at the fee schedules for a basic checking/savings account at each bank/credit union near you and see what's cheapest. Also look into the benefits of using a particular bank.
Ex. I'm with a OnPoint Community Credit Union with an eChecking/Savings account. There are no fees when using you're checking account, and I have free access to a wide network of ATMs, even if they're not OnPoint ATMs.

I'd recommend a local credit union checking account, an Ally Bank savings account, and a secured credit card from Capital One or another major institution to get a credit history going.
