it is a joke/meme because most of them lose at it and of those who win in the sort run a fair number of them are doing so mostly through luck rather than generating any real alpha

that was the case back in the 90s and is even more so today

not that it is impossible for someone to gamble his way up to a fortune in trading... (and daytrading isn't the only way to do this either, there are examples in the futures market Paul Tudor Jones), in FX(Joe Lewis) of people becoming multimillionaires or billionaires from a relatively modest initial stake (neither of those need worry about HFT much as they're big macro players) - but it is highly highly unlikely for any one person to have success like that

Not me, I'm part of the 23% because of my autistic-level dedication to the craft. Rather than use my autism-points to become an engineer or w/e I chose trading. I make good money though it's become my life.

it's hard. but worth it
i'm deep negative overall but i'm only in my 3rd year live, actually trying day to day.

put tons of hours and study into it.

last thing that's holding me back is me.. it's hard, i know i'll make it but i didn't expect it to be so hard.
