this automotive journal my friend "works for" does that, they basically buy a fuckton of traffic to their pages (they get next to no real traffic but have lke 300k+ subscribers on everything of just fake shit, no actual interaction) and they make like $5k a month in ad revenue

Back when I signed up for AdSense years ago, Google could tell if you were cickibg your own ads. Views were a different story buy the payout was so low you'd have to hit it a billion times just to make $1.
