Is "networking" a politically correct buzzword of nepotism?

Why else would anyone want to meet 100s of random strangers just to meet that one person who will become their friend and who not surprisingly give in the good word for them to get hired?

it is anon, it is

>go to end of exams party
>talking to my friend about post graduation plans
>tell him I've got a position at a BB
>out of fucking nowhere a 5'7" freshman dressed in a suit and tie introduces himself
>tells me he's studying finance
>gives me his fucking business card that just has his name, phone number and email
>the next day he tries to add me on linkedin even though I never told him my last name
Don't do this.

anon you sucked dick to get that position, the freshmen just gave you his card. stop being a snob

No it isn't. I got my first ib internship through nepotism. I got my second one (in a different continent with a completely different bank) primarily through networking and a prestigious uni on my resume coupled with some impressive extra curriculars. I had to proverbially suck dick to get that second internship. All I had to do to get the first one was ask my father to call the head of investment banking of that bank and voila, I got the internship. Networking requires serious effort and if you can't do it or you can't learn to do it then it is unlikely that you will ever succeed because professional success (until more senior positions) is 40% performance and 60% sociability/how much your coworkers and superiors like you and want you to stick around.

Yes.
Though is nepotism politically incorrect?
>>
>>1242148
no
nepotism = favoring your relatives
cronyism = favoring your friends
