Why not just look at the activity/employment rate instead of guesstimating the """real""" unemployment rate?
>>
>>1236584
I dunno but in europe countries like italy and spain basically nobody under 35yo goes to work
>>
>>1236591
Sounds like the dream.
>>
>>1236599
It's basically NEET country. I hear that in Portugal they call it staying at Hotel Mama.

>no income other than perhaps the few hundred dollars the government sends you a month
>end up gaining no work experience throughout the most important period of your life
>likely forced to live with parents

...sounds great
>>
>>1236608
>no debt
>do everything on your own time
>everything paid for my parents

When I'm sitting in traffic going to work 17 hours from now, I will continue to envy them.

So you're a unemployable, financial leech dependent on people whose only relational connection to you culminated out of the forced, biological dice that you happened to come about from?

Gee, you're virtuous.
>>
>>1236631
Being a financial leech is a great deal if you can get it. What's the point of working for things when you can get them for free and actually enjoy life?

If you're the child of a billionaire, or even a millionaire, then yea, sure, using their money to advance your own economic productivity is fine.

Although, if you're living with your parents in a run-down, $150k building that your family spent decades attempting to build up the money to even purchase, then no, living in a perpetual spiral of an inconsequential, worthless, unproductive and not even somewhat wealthy life is disgusting, and you should be doing all that you can to escape that lifestyle.

the issue is UNDERemployment

the issue is old people being forced to work longer or rejoin the workforce rather than retire

the issue is the steadily increasing barrier to entry for basic employment

looking at the raw percentage of the workforce with a job doesn't mean shit. nobody wants to work part-time at wal-mart. it's not a societal boon if we all work retail and fast food. if anything, it's a huge waste of time and human capability to find people stuck below their potential. at least if people were simply 'unemployed' we could attack that problem directly. the current problem is obfuscated behind the underemployed taking welfare in order to pad corporate profit margins.
>>
>>1236647
U6 accounts for underemployment.

>>1236646
I'm motivated to be a productive member of society because in the US it's really hard to skate by on social assistance. However in Europe, being NEET is worth it over trying to be something.
>>
>>1236647
This. This is the real issue.

The best any of us can hope for our children's future is that they work at McDonalds or some other equivalent low end job if this is allowed to continue.

>being NEET is worth it over trying to be something

...in other words:

>living off the governments ability to extort productive citizens and give it to otherwise unproductive ones is worth it when compared to doing all that you can to obtain a position in society that has some degree of economic value.

Am I incorrect?
>>
>>1236658
I mean yeah, don't hate the players, just the game.
>>
>>1236651
does U6 account for people who work multiple part-times to make ends meet? that's a very common situation nowadays. someone that holds 2 or more 20 hour per week shifts at various places, but still doesn't qualify for corporate benefit plans at any of them.

i see an example of U6 being someone who has a part-time while looking for a full-time. what about an 'unqualified' worker being denied the opportunity for a full-time?
