I work in the UK for a local council, I'm wondering if I get a new job in the private sector will I be able to carry over my pension?

What pension, you muppet?

We're heading for a pension crisis.

I know but let's pretend we weren't, is it possible?

I don't know? If the sun goes supernova tomorrow can I hide out in a cave?

You'll have some pension (until the socialist state goes bankrupt), but obviously the public and private sector are two different entities.

Normally private pensions are offered for private sector workers.

Judging by your question, it is probably safer that you stick in the public sector.

Dumb people do well there

public sector pensions are also managed by private sector companies you idiot
you think councils etc manage their own pensions?

>>1231930
the answer is "it depends". you will have to read your T&Cs carefully
if you leave the council the pension will become "paid up" i.e. you will stop putting money into it through your job
but you will probably be able to top up the pension yourself if you want

if your question is, "will a new employer put money into my council pension scheme for me", the answer is probably no, because they will have their own pension scheme and provider, unless the employer's own scheme is with the same company that administers the council scheme. however you may be able to transfer the money from the council scheme to the new employer's scheme (now that the rules have changed so that people can basically do what they want with their pension pots) to avoid two sets of admin charges etc

there isn't one single answer. when you join a new company, you should be able to talk to a pensions adviser at that company who will be able to tell you what options you have.

They're run by pension fund managers who are basically 'tards who herd based on whatever news comes along.

Private pensions tend to be run an order of magnitude better than the .gov shitshow.
