My "portfolio" consists of the bankers I work with and their book of clients. Speaking in terms of how big that is, it's around $20 million in loan outstandings. Salary is $70k

35-40 a week, depending on how many deals are in the pipeline. Our office is in an office building downtown (there is a branch downstairs, but we are a few floors up).

I have done SBA loans but not too often. My bank is a preferred SBA lender, meaning that SBA trusts our underwriting enough that they will fund loans without doing their own underwriting. My last SBA deal was for a $1.3 million loan to a restauranteur who wanted to buy the building his restaurant was in.

What type of education do you have? Can you get into this position with any degree? What were you doing before this?

I have some of a finance degree (stopped school to focus on work full time). A typical job posting will ask for an accounting/finance degree or equivalent work experience. Prior banking experience is a plus. I worked in the retail branch system for about 3 years before jumping into this role.
