IMO, unless you plan on mining it yourself, or have a real interest in the technology, I wouldn't dabble in it unless you feel like just fucking around and potentially losing a bunch of money you don't need.

Learn about the coins, follow the people who are using them to build a stateless economy, and how. I mined BTC early on as an interesting thought experiment on the future of currency (did it for a university project in my economics course), but have no intention of seriously investing in ANY cryptocurrency, because it's too volatile imo.

You are thinking very short term my friend. It isn't about what you can get with 2.5k now. It's about percentage gains, adding more to your investment funds, successfully dealing with risk management to keep gains, and having fun while you read the news and expand your mind (and wallet.)
Your job is perfect for side trading/investing. Download robinhood. Avoid trump coin, but start to set up your BTC at coinbase so when a tech-heavy coin starts their ICO you can jump in on it. If I would have put 20% instead of 2% into lisk I would be a very rich man.
