I was an idiot and went to school for Theatre Arts, I was hopeful for an acting career, and I am getting SOME jobs but I need something that will make cash more fluid in the mean time.
What can I do with this degree? I work retail at the moment but there is no room for advancement. I don't want to just be making a little over minimum wage for the rest of my life. What do I do? Or what can I do?

Succ some dicc for $

Watch a show called party down, move to a place where there's lots of internet work for extras and suck dicks/flip burgers while you build up your resume doing extra work

Anywhere your extroversion can be used, sales representative, tv/radio adds, radio talkshows, you could go into entertainment journalism or smth.

or maybe something like dicc succing?

My cousin got a degree in something similar to that (acting, theater, whatever the fuck).

The acting thing seems to be more of a hobby / pipedream, to be honest.

But, she seems to be successful as a PR person, I think for a startup. Who better to go around giving pitch presentations to companies around town than someone trained to speak in front of large groups of people? Look for positions like that. Show them that you're outgoing in that sense and a good choice to represent an organization with your special skill set.

But I should add, she is attractive and extroverted. I guess there are shy ugly actors too. For example, Daniel Day Lewis would be a shit PR guy.

It's presumptive of me to assume you would be good at something like that.

What I meant is that your theater skills can be applied in other scripted public speaking situations. You can learn what you need in any industry, no business education required. Don't count yourself out because you don't understand oversea logistics or networking software or whatever other crazy stuff they are selling.
>>
If you went into Theatre, I would assume that you have some confidence in public speaking, person-to-person interaction, and conveying your ideas effectively. Is this true for you?

If so, you could absolutely get into the good sales jobs. Stay away from the telemarketing, d2d, and mall kiosk gigs. Go for the good business-to-business jobs. Many companies offer entry level positions (0 to 2 yrs. experience). Now in this climate, I think you'd have to do some networking to get an opening. Most job boards are flooded with the crap jobs that I've mentioned above. Maybe you should investigate local job fairs? Maybe you should go to your uni's career center? That would be my first step.

I'm not trying to sound like a faggoty motivational speaker, but it's not too late for you. It's not over for you, and I don't think you are a lost cause. Now, being the dumbshit that you are, you've dealt yourself a shit hand. And now you are paying the price. What you do right now is essential for paving the way for the next few years. What you need to do is investigate the options available to you. And don't say "there are no options", or else you'd sound like a sadcunt /r9k/ denizen. You absolutely need to dig around for yourself. Also, if you find out a way to travel back in time, go back three months and invest in ETH.

I really appreciate the advice and this is something I can get into.
I can definitely be extroverted and I can speak fairly well in front of a large group. I'd say Im pretty okay looking, so this could be a great chance for me.
I hate that I did this to myself but I am ready to make something out of it.

>acting

dime a dozen bunch of hippies lmao. Everyone wants to be an actor nowadays, noone actually wants to do any work on the set
cause "ive got passion" yeah well good luck family, hang out with junkies and weed smokers and leave the filmmaking to the actual pros.

Esl is always an option if you are a native english speaker and willing to uproot your life. I had a great private kindergarten job in china for two+ years with my only credential being native speaker and a 4 year degree (metalsmithing/jewelry design kek). i saved over 50% of my wage and lived like a rich guy

Do what Bill Gates did with his degree.

manual labor
work behind the camera (I did this for 2 years)
something else entirely

Those are your options. Working behind the camera aint bad bro. Start as PA, move into a dept and learn learn learn. You could be making $250+ per day in no time. The stuff behind the camera is simple.

I also tried to make it as an actor one time. Good times.

3: get a job at a small theatre as a ticketing person they have good hours and respect your degree
4: stay for a couple years and either become famous, a ticketing director, or a house manager

5: at least you're close enough to do work and make contacts

bonus: you usually get free tix to first nights where you can rub elbows with actors, agents and the rich

B-bill gates didn't get a degree did he?

ok OP got his/her answers and now im coming in to shit things up a notch:

what about a film degree?

im not extroverted at all but im great with technical related work. regretting my major immensely but trying to make it work. graduated a year ago and managed to land a job right out the gate with a large company designin instructional videos. pay is good but everything else about the job makes me want to stab my eyes out. the dream is thoroughly dead here.

im in long island just trying to find any steady film related work in nyc but ive applied for four months now and havent gotten any responses. dont know what im doing wrong. what kind of jobs should i be looking for? it seems even PA jobs have impossibly high standards here. i do have PA experience various internships and i work with a very well reknowned camera company.

should i just move to LA and hope for the best? is it even possible to line up a job in cali if im living on the east coast? i just dont even know wtf to do with my life anymore.
