I dont know the exact details of their finances, but they have nice apartments and can afford go out to things that they want to go out to. What do you think is going to be so expensive that 70k will be 'just getting by'? Look on the internet for apartment prices if you dont believe me. If you have a roommate it will be $1000-2000/month, $1400-2500/month without one generally. Don't listen to the fucking kids saying '$70k/yr is dogshit, totally eaten up by cost of living' etc. Do your own research, but for a single person that is more than plenty to live comfortably
