I have a friend who's family has been making moves since the 30's. My family arrived in the states in 96. Now by all accounts I'm smarter than my friend, and far above her in my commitment to hardwork. But unless I get really fucking lucky she will always be above me financially. Her family owns dozens of properties, millions in stock options etc. the whole 9 yards. And they have cemented their name in the community so despite her partying like a wild animal for the last 4 years in college, she just received a nice cushy job starting at 70k annual. And no, she was not qualified.

I just have a really strong connection to my family's homestead, but due to economics I could never buy it today. I worked on three of the six buildings that stand there, planted a lot of the trees and formed a lot of my most important memories there, so the idea that the government should get to take it because they can't manage their money makes me want to shoot a tax collector.
