I don't think I fit the average finance/business-mindset, I think it's just the way I am but it does feel like an outcast in the business world sometimes. I am currently finishing my MSc Economics focusing on Finance, I moved as an immigrant at the age of 5 to my present country, I know what struggle and adaptation to a new culture is like, I am the first within my family to have a college degree (BSc Economics) and I previously interned for a total of 12 months at Goldman and other banks. My dream is the development of a profitable algo-trading system and of course financial independence.

Yet, assuming I succeed, I never think of myself as someone who will live in a multi-million dollar mansion, drive Lamborghinis and spend a lot of money. My vision always has been and continues to be that of a Robin Hood. With all the potential profits I want to help kids with a scholarship fund, I want to help my old school by supporting it financially, I want to support projects that really matter for mankind in my mind (electric cars, fusion power, space exploration...), even if I can only help a little. I grew up in a small town where even 1 million would mean the world to the town and they could construct a park or whatever with it.

Does anyone else have this "giver"-mentality? However, it also means to literally give money away to people who have worked less than I have so far. It's like I am a born socialist living in a cutthroat capitalist environment.

I don't think you're weird at all. I think most people feel the exact same way you do. However, most people I've encountered in the tax bracket you wish to belong to are actually very self-focused. It takes tremendous effort to overcome the odds and make it on your own. Now add the added difficulty of helping others overcome their odds. The odds get stacked agains you very quickly, and you'll find out how hard it is to stay above water.

Good luck though!

no but you have to do a cost benefit analysis.

On the way to the top you'll find that many of these people are petty and revolting. They do not appreciate opportunities and will bleed you dry given the chance for they themselves do not know how to create and what it means to create for the masses. The sacrifices that must be made are enormous. They do not realize the burden of stewardship. your million dollar park likely costs over 100k per year to maintain, and without quickly turns to a dried up dust bin where hobos get buried and whores trick for drug money.

You yourself have never truly worked for anything. Lest you would see these filthy leeches. Spending their lives eating and shitting and very little else. Detesting the feeling of thought. Reviling effort. Struggling in their futility. Most business is giving and giving nonstop 110% effort. When you try to help with the things that truly matter. Education and Connections, people never call. Look at the pitiful numbers on Itunes U, or the open education project. but give folks a buy 10 burgers get the 11th half off special. bruh so can I just order 11 burgers today. Of course that 4% discount was really all it took to call you to action.
They waste and complain about their lack of Godly favor. You give and you give, and may penetrate to 1 in 1000 over your lifetime. For the majority will only let you down with their absolute apathy towards all that is wholesome and nourishing to the soul. I'm sure you've felt it too. Flippant Cynicism, the occasional troll comment, ignorance masquerading as fact.
You will one day understand that self interest is a guiding rod of light and justice, that people must earn their keep.
The show Million Dollar Makeover, where the most woebegone families get home renovations. In under 1 year most families could not pay the taxes and were evicted. Compare that to Habitat 4 humanity wherein you assist building your modest home. 80% fail vs 80% success

Your problem is that you aren't thinking big enough.

With such little amounts of money, you are wasting time. You have to use money & power to achieve something greater.

Maybe a successful run at a large bank _> working at the World Bank or Federal Reserve would be a better fit for you.

Simply getting a few million and giving it away won't amount to anything. It's easier to move money than obtain it yourself.

People with this mindset do not usually get rich from business

I mean, there's nothing wrong with you per se, but why not aim bigger than "build a park for my town"? You could set up a nonprofit trust to help fund a handful of scholarships for other high achievers, or you could start a shelter for kids, etc.

A park feels like an easy way out; it won't get used nearly as much as you think it would, and it won't get maintained the way it should if your town is as poor as you say.
