Let's have a real /frugal/ thread for once

>get a coffee maker and brew at home. Dont ever buy coffee. Do the same for water. Buy 5 gallon jugs and refill smaller containers to bring to work
>cut open toothpaste, hairgel, shampoo, etc bottles and use the last bit stuck to the inside of the bottle. You can get an extra week out of each bottle this way

This is what my life is like, or my checking account.

I live at home. Pay for my own gas, but not my own car insurance. I live in my childhood bed. I earn so little my parents don't even charge rent.

I worked a minimum wage job until I quit today because a coworker - subordinate got into a fight with me today, and my manager sided with the subordinate. I had to apologize to a person who stuck his face in mine, and told me to get to the back so he could knife me. I told him I'm going to quit unless the subordinate/temp worker was fired. He wasn't, so I quit.

>>
>>1131371
Wth Did you work at a prison yard?
>>
>>1131379
Yes the people work with are low class cholos, basically ex-cons at a warehouse. It's not easy being a white man working in a warehouse, especially if your manager is a Mexican who hates all gringos, and your boss is a Chinese guy who gives no fucks about what happens. It's worse when my Mexican manager refuses to give me any help, and my weekly task includes assembling 5 pallets everyday of oversized items.

As far as my expenses:
My miscellaneous fees are education. I used that to deduct my taxes.

I used to bring lunch everyday.

My outgoing transfers are to my roth-IRA.

My office supplies are the warehouse knives I used work because those fucking beaners also stole my shit.

I've hit rock bottom friends. I'm fucking tired. My back hurts again -- I already had back surgery after visiting the ER.

Haircuts are~20€ (~$22) where I live, and I work in luxury hospitality so every two weeks is a minimum. Over 450€/year saved by cutting my hair myself, and I do it at home, no need to cope with the yipyap of the hairdresser and having to waste my day off getting a haircut.

Don't wash your clothes in a machine and don't use expensive washing agents. Just use soap and wash your stuff in your kitchen sink. Then let your clothes dry under the sun - everything will become just as clean and it's a faster procedure.

Make a grocery list everytime you need food
Keep a log of the prices of everything you buy (there are apps for this) so that you know exactly how much you'll be spending

Fair enough if you have a friend or partner neaten it up every few weeks but to cut the whole thing yourself is retarded unless you're literally just shaving it all.
>>
>>1131857

I get my hair cut about twice a year. Hah, so men actually fuss over their hair more than women.

>>1132347

This. My professor told us he was spending $200 a week USD on eating out, in addition to his regular groceries. Now he drives back to his house ??? for his wife to make him lunch in an attempt to save money. He lives a minimum of half an hour away. Idk why he can't just pack something, because he's still wasting gas, not to mention time... Brilliant guy, but keeps money like water in a sieve. I spend $30 a week on food and rarely eat out, maybe a handful of times a year.
>>
Penny wise, pound foolish. Look at your biggest expenses first. They have the most savings potential and are the best investment for your effort. Housing, food, car/transport, and medical, typically.

>private room in shared place
>rent cut in half
>can still masturbate in peace

Or for housecucks, I guess rent out rooms of your overpriced moneysink.
>>
>>1132337
That's because you have no friends because you smell so fucking bad.
>>
>>1132784
I look at this a little differently. I have a nice truck that i make what some would consider exorbitant payments on. But i dont drink alcohol, dont smoke, and brew my own coffee and pack a lunch and water every day. Just on the last 3 things I save:
> $7/ wk water
> $30/ wk lunch
> $15/ wk coffee
Thats over $200/month. Add the money I save never drinking or smoking and I can more than make the truck payment by eliminating expenses that most people think of as part of their bottom line.

To me being frugal is about not being wasteful with things that dont noticeably change your everyday life and using the money saved to improve your quality of life in bigger areas.
>>
This seems like a casual enough thread. What are some good books to read if I want an entry-level approach to economics and want to read more complex stuff eventually? The Art of the Deal
>>
>>1132876
The Deal of the Art
>>
Follow all these to save/make money.
1. Do not drink or do drugs. If drink regularly and you find yourself here and broke, there's your problem. You need to deal with that before you can fix your money problems. No thrifty living tip will keep you wealthy and drunk or high, ever.

2. Use reusable house ware items. Do not use paper towel or plastic wrap. Ikea has kitchen towels for $0.50 each. Get about 5 and use them to wipe messes, blow your nose, everything. Get some cheap plastic containers to store food.

3. Shop around and identify the value retailers. Some grocery stores cater to the middle and upper class, and others lower, so find the lower. Depending on your location, there might be small family-run markets that sell fruits and vegetables a little cheaper.

4. Break the spending habit. Stop the psychological justifications your have to buy games, clothes, computer shit, etc. You may need to give all your money for a trusted friend/partner. You should be buying groceries each week and that's all.

5. Always be learning. You can go from zero to a $50k job in a few months if you commit yourself to learning software development online. This may take a large lifestyle change that means no more LoL, Youtube, chans, etc. For starters, see Codecademy and CS50.

6. Don't drive a car. Ride the bus or bike and move if necessary.

Here's a 1 week shopping list (priced from an expensive region, store brand stuff):

2 loaves of bread = $3
500g sliced bologna - $4
24 sliced cheese - $3
Mustard or mayo - $2
3kg of Apples - $6
Chicken soup mix - $2

Only take $20 to the store and go once a week. Notice no frozen pizzas, soda, chips or other kids junk food. Do not buy bulk either. I also suggest but wipes ($3) over toilet paper. You'll need dish soap ($2) and laundry detergent ($4), and learn to use as little as possible. If you don't replace those for months, you're doing it right.

Utilities: T-Mobile has a $40 plan (USA) and Koodo has a $35 plan (Canada).
>>
>>1132784
Owning property can be far more economical than renting. Provided your not a retard who goes out and buys a 40 year mortgage McMansion. If you can provide the labor and materials you can pick up cheap fucking houses, slowly fix them up, and own some thing worth a pile of money while paying no rent. You just have to be ok with living in a crack shack for a few years and learning how to do a lot of shitty jobs you then do on your weekends.

All you cats eating Ramen Noodles every day
don't have to kill yourselves after all.

1. Boil your brown rice.
2. Cut up vegetables; almost any will work.
3. Lightly oil the pan.
4. Add chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp of almost any kind to the pan and cook until browned.
5. Throw cooked rice into the pan.
6. Drop and scramble two eggs into the pan.
7. Mix it all up.
8. Add soy sauce.
9. Enjoy.
10.Profit.

Your shopping list is shit tbqh. Removal of processed snacks and such is always good, but advocating poor health in the name of savings crosses the line into jewery. Your shopping list is the absolute last thing you should be looking to pinch pennies on because of its obvious importance. The weekly shopping budget that will allow you a diet that will take you past 40 years old is about $40.

This is true for me. My family of 3 eats very well on $100 to $120 a week. We almost never eat at resturaunts. There are some things you can save on with food, but you need proper nutrition for a strong body and mind to be able to make money in the first place.

Sweden. It's not that bad, it's just that food is expensive and the housing market is basically a monopolized market locked down by government regulation. We can buy other financial instruments just fine, and capital gains tax is "just" 30%. I just get really riled up about the housing market, since there's a huge shortage, about half a million new homes need to be built by 2020, and that was before the immigration crisis that started around last year, and this is in a nation with 10 million people. At the same time the government has basically made it illegal to purchase property to rent it out for profit, unless you own the entire apartment complex. This means all housing in Sweden is owned by about 1-2 monopolies in each city, and they build no new housing to keep the prices up. So stuff like condos don't exist here, since you never "purchase" an apartment, you simply purchase the right to live in it, which I think is fucked up, but it's a relic from 60s socialist Sweden.
>>
>>1131262
Firstly, pol is only right wing. The only differance between their faith in gov, which ranges from fascism to libertarianism.

Secondly, capitalism isnt really a modern political idea, its already won and new issues are around. Not even nigger voters buy into bernie socialism. You can still only care about the economy and call yourself a capitalist, but its a tad meme at this point.

Thirdly, distinct capitalists and meta capitalists
>>
>>1132992
Oh, and to add, the prices of these rights to live in the apartment basically costs the same as actually purchasing a condo overseas. So fucked up.

For men who shave, single blade safety razors. $30 up front for a good, solid brass Mekur, Parker, Edwin Jagger. $10 for a packet of 100 surgical quality blades. $40 the first year and then $10-15 for the rest of your stinkin' life.

Beats the shit out of paying Gillette $15 for a Fusion or $10 for a Mach3 handle, then between $2 and $7 a cartridge which will last only a month before tearing your face off.

Your diet is shit. NEVER skimp on investing in yourself with good food and medical care. I spend $30 a week on groceries and eat mainly fruit, vegetables, clean meats, and dairy. I wouldn't let something like bologna into my house. Bread is also shit, especially budget bread. Best presliced is rye, but mainly the only grain I eat is oatz. My brekkie this morning was cottage cheese with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries, with a big bowl of homemade oatz, and tea.

I use Ting and pay $15/month for phone and text (no data, but you could elect to have it.)

>>1132926

Owning could be better than renting, key word could, but it is not always. It's also a lot of risk, responsibility, and tying your assets up in an extremely illiquid instrument. I didn't go to college to be a construction worker. I have no interest in "house flipping." It's a waste of time. It would be more economical just to get a second job in your profession, if you're gonna spend your weekends rebuilding a crack shack. Also you sacrifice all of your free time. Going to have to disagree with not taking vacations, its worth the price; just need to do it judiciously. Public transportation and living in a room are things that you can get used to, so the amount of happiness that you get out of it levels out, but there have been a lot of studies on how experiences like vacations are the best ways to buy enduring happiness.

>Investigate rewards programs that stores have and check out coupons too if you have extra time (nothing beats getting deodorant and shampoo for pennies).
>Use card pool or other sites to buy discounted gift cards for stores you know you are going to buy things from. Even if you save 7 percent that covers taxes in a lot of places.
>Goodwill, salvation army, valueworld, and any other thrift store.
>If you live in the USA and live below the poverty line ~$15,800, utilize every single government program you can. Free school. Free insurance. Free food. Subsidized housing. It is there for a reason - use it until you have a career that allows you to not have to use the system anymore.
>Make lowball offers on things that you know you can haggle over and resell. Almost every week I buy something on craiglist and then either resell it on ebay or sell it to someone I know. Buy something for 50, sell it for 100.
>keep an eye out for trade in promotions at different stores. One time bestbuy ran a promo where they were giving a minimum of $5 for any electronics trade in. They ended up with a lot of .50 cent earbuds from me.
>recycle cans and scrap metal. I make 10-15 dollars a month just by saving cans and that takes literally no effort.

get on my lvl

>buy 4 tons of coal and store it in your basement, get a coal/steam generator, for a house of 3 the electrical and heat/gas bill equates to 100$ per year
>buy in bulk base materials from B2B firms every half year, ~8k in food spent per year
>get a well and a water filter with a destilator + mineral packets
>if it was up to me i would get rid of the car but luckily i know a guy who makes biodiesel 75% of the market price where i live
>from all that save up to 75k per year, spend 25k on holidays and save the rest for future investments

some people will fround on my spending habits but i really get a high for saving 70$ for a product that i can get/make for 5$

I like to travel internationally, so it's waiting for cheap plane tickets and airbnb. Would probably be a lot easier if I wasn't travelling from the US.

>$8,000 get basic liability only. Also if you have a g/f and you both drive, lie

Do not do this:

When its time to claim, they will find any way out of it. You are just throwing your money away doing this.
