Anyone has extensive knowledge if the unclaimed property process?

The state websites have a lot of info for US citizens, but close to nothing for foreign citizens.
A relative of mine has over 6000 USD unclaimed in California, but she is an EU citizen. Any idea on how to enforce the claim?

The process is virtually identical. Have her contact the treasury and they'll walk her through it. Does require a bit more documentation.

Okay I did not mention that none of the involved parties are located in the US (including me), so even contacting the treasury is not that easy.
According to California state website, they don't wire money, only use cheques which is also a totally foreign concept here in our country, not even sure if I can cash those in.

What kind of account is it? Or is it a cancel check or what?

Have the funds been taxed?

I am not really sure what you are asking, I am confused about the jargon.

Bro, it's just a matter of making a telephone call. My brother was stationed at Beale AFB two years ago. He's currently stationed at Osan AFB in Korea. He just got $600 in pay that was held in reserve from his part time job at Red Robin. The check might take a while, but as long as you have access to any sort of bank you should be good.

Beyond that, how long are you going to be out of the country? CA I think, holds it until claimed for 10 years, whichever is sooner. If you happen to be back in the US for a while, have it mailed to your temporary address, then you can take it to any of a number of banks for cashing with minimal additional cost.

Definitely seems more complicated than something that can be done on the phone. They ask for a bazillion documents most of them the beneficiary does not have.
Never lived in the US, so its very unlikely I will ever be able to cash it in in California.
