What kind of bank should I get a mortgage from?
I know that asking a bunch of line cooks and auto technicians is kind of a long shot. But it takes all kinds.

It's counter intuitive I know, but I think you can actually get a better deal from an independant mortgage broker then you can from a bank directly

My local credit union offered the best interest rate but only if you got home insurance through them, which was pretty expensive, so it all about balanced out between picking them and some national bank brand. I went with the credit union because I already have my account there and they just automatically take the payments out of my checking.
