You will need to apply to an online brokerage and that broker will have its own trading platform. Once your application is approved you can fund your account and you can then start buying/selling to your hearts content.

Yes and no. Day trading is defined by the pattern day trader rule, which gives (very) preferential tax treatment, but requires no less than 25000 in equity at any given time. This can happen at home.
