How does /biz/ think of The Economist?
>>
>>1104776
With my dick.
>>
It seems reddit as fuck. The pseuds on reddit always mention it as being good. tl;dr: Hurrdurr, if it increases GDP then it's good, no questions asked.
>>
>>1104796
>Reddit encompasses both conservative and liberal idealism now.

The meme has gone beyond my understanding.

trash for wannabes/aspirationals
>>
I like it.

Been a subscriber (print edition) since mid-last year and read a couple of articles every day or so. I would say that its liberal but its still a high quality magazine.
>>
Little cut and dry but that's what I like about it.
I would recommend because you will constantly be learning something new and it keeps you on top of everything with out all of the outrage Porn
>>
A lot of people read it to make them look smart. There is a lot of propaganda and the paper is quite arrogant in their opinion pieces. I do read it though to see what's going on around the world.

Examples, citations??

Any other good places to get news regarding finance, the economy and current news?

Looking for twitter feeds as well
>>
>>1104776
It lays out the plans for the future.

No wonder >>>/pol/ had a lot of threads about its cover issue since January

Globalist establishment garbage
>>

>implying Trump isn't the lizards themselves directly running for office instead of putting some lizard-friendly shill in charge like they usually do
>>
Remember the time they said sewers were bad because cholera was nature's way of clearing out the unfit?
>>
>>1105032
That was in the 1850's, you stupid fuck. And the only reason they said that is because they believe in serious minimalist government intervention and free market faggotry
>>

Why am I not surprised?

Thediplomat.com

Not so much finance but good news.

Incredibly patronising towards "the lower orders" and too pro free-trade for my liking, but some of the articles are still quite good
>>
i remember seeing an article with them shaming other european countries because they didnt want to take in all the refugees. fuck em
>>
>>1104776
Neoliberal shit.
>>
>>1107006
I'm sorry, but you do understand that publications are composed of different writers who may or may not all agree on the same specific policies, no?
>>
>>1107179

Don't you know they're all newly graduated Oxbridge humanities students? Not even economics or STEM grads
>>
>>1107185
I just find it funny that the economic magazine widely regarded as being too laissez-faire and too far-right by most economists is regarded as too bleeding-heart-liberal by /biz/.

Also, isnt' that complaint about Oxford graduates literally 20 years old now?

The economist is a left wing shill magazine that embraces shitty demand side economics and social justice
>>
>>1107198
Socially speaking it is quite left wing. Certainly that's the main reason I dislike it. But we're not on /pol/ at the moment are we...

these. Long-term reader and former subscriber. They're good for learning and facts about what's generally happening. But their opinion pieces which are well hidden are poor

THE FREE MARKET WILL FIX EVERYTHING the magazine

They have been trying to push a more social liberal "agenda" these last couple of years to hide their obvious right-wing one

Libertarianism != socialism
>>
>>1108048
Because perhaps some socially liberal views aren't wrong and aren't destroying the fabric of society?
>>
Im a subscriber. The audio edition is God Tier work listening material. The global perspective is fucking rad and it's cool to know about whats going on in fucking Ghana. I also appreciate that they don't have bylines so you don't know who wrote a piece, basically leaving the identity of the author irrelevant, and I like the flat rational way they present what is happening even if they're taking a side.

That being said, they do have some low quality articles. Last week's issue had a piece on how lesbians are paid more than sleight women that used the fucking women earn 78% of what men earn statistic that's been refuted tons of times. It then lolly gagged around about why lesbians might earn more despite "discrimination" in the workplace when the obvious answer is lesbians don't take maternity leave and probably negotiate salaries more aggressively.

That's not the only bullshit article I've read but that's the worst one in recent memory. There's also an article where they called the Cleveland Browns a "successful franchise" which was also crazy wrong but they basically laughed at themselves about that flub by reading tons of letters this week from people correcting them.
>>
>it's bad because it beelines to gdp
>it's bad because it's socialist meme garbage
These are contradictions. You either beeline social improvements or gdp.
>>
>>1108058
>wrong
There's more than one issue in politics

>the fabric of society
Irrelevant, most leftist economic policies are as meme as trickle down economics though, and even on paper have huge holes in them. I havn't seen a bernie sanders supporter use the word exports yet, and there are basically no relevant GOP candidates. Hell is there any politically aligned economic policy that isn't retarded?
>>
>>1104776
I exclusively read TheEconomist and watch/read Bloomberg.
They're both what i would call scholarly progressive centrist.
All I want is sound intellectual optimism through the logical evolution of well tested fundamentals and values viewed through the lens of objective pragmatism, delivered by good journalism.
>>
>>1108315
But the economist isn't leftist economically. The anon you replied to specifically said "socially speaking".
>>
>>1108340

I does give me the vibe that it's run by the same people who run the EU though.
>>
>>1108340

Watch CSPAN, literally everyone will say they want unbiased news but then nobody even considers CSPAN which has probably the most strict reporting standards on Earth.

But whenever I suggest this people always go "lmao Cspan xD" and roll their eyes as if they are somehow too smart to consider it

As for the Economist, I dislike how when it comes to China they just cherry pick issues that are both completely irrelevant to anything important, and always paint China in a bad light. I mean come on it's an underdeveloped country with a communist party in charge that has already stated that party stability is of the same importance as economic growth, lets actually write something that has to do with the global economy instead of another "woah look at this, China sucks haha!"
