Anyone else lose bitcoin because of this bullshit?
Cryptsy, a huge bitcoin exchage, said it was attacked by some sort of trojan and lost a bunch of coins.
I lost like 0.03BTC but it's still a piss off. Anyone know anything about this?

You lost $15? You baller you.

The point is that this a huge exchange that closed all trading and withdrawals. I'm sure someone lost a significant amount
When will people learn to stop storing their stuff at online exchanges?
who still falls for this shit
100% of crypto exchanges are scams. No exceptions.
>Bu... But what about X
It just hasn't been "hacked" yet
>>1104702
>keeping btc in custodial wallets
It's not your bitcoin unless you know the private keys.

Looks like they're fucked.
>Trades and withdrawals will be suspended on the site indefinately until some sort of resolution can be made.
>Here are our options:
>1. We shut down the website and file bankruptcy, letting users file claims via the bankruptcy process and letting the court make the disbursements.
>- or –
>2. Somebody else comes in to purchase and run Cryptsy while also making good on requested withdrawals.
>- or –
>3. If somehow we are able to re-aquire the stolen funds, then we allow all withdrawal requests to process.

But what about Kraken?
No worries, the FDIC covers each individual account up to $200,000 in the event of such a bank robbery, right?

No dollars were stolen though; no bank was robbed.

nocoiners gonna nocoin
Meanwhile the smart people has millions on their personal BTC wallets.
cryptsy has always been garbage
>>1105338
That was the point;
Not-money has all of zero anti-theft security or insurance. Say you lost 500 BTC in this event. Your options are:
>Hope they don't fuck up repaying people
>Try to claim you owned money that leaves no paper trail and is of constantly-altering unbacked value in court.
>>1105441
>unbacked value
Where do nocoiners come up with these concepts?
>>1105441
Bitcoin is just digital cash.
If you hand $2M in cash to a stranger and he runs away are you going to start blaming USD for being "insecure"?
By keeping BTC with Cryptsy (instead of in a wallet you control) you are entrusting that company (not the bitcoin network) with your funds.
Only the technically inept would ever keep anywhere near 500 BTC in the control of someone else. Exchanges facilitate fiat->coin and coin->fiat transactions, they are not banks and they should never be considered a safe place to store large amounts of wealth. If people didn't misuse exchanges there would probably be far less failures.
