He became the poster child for the New York real estate boom in the 80's, and that was where he was really successful. In actuality, his business ventures after that weren't all that successful if you do your research. Anyways he cemented the popular character he created for himself when he started the Apprentice. And ever since then he's been pretty well known in Pop culture.
