I'm a freshman econ major. will i be behind if i dont get an internship this summer? does the the normal econ/business freshman even get an internship for their first summer?
my plan right now is to just self study and work at my normal summer job.

I'm a freshman at Williams with a double major in econ and math. My opinion is kind of limited since I am in the same boat as you and I can only really supply anecdotal thoughts about it.
However, I know that a decent portion of my classmates (~40-50%) are in the process of landing summer internships or have already gotten one. I personally am deciding between an unpaid internship at John Hancock or a paid 'research' position at Harvard. Personally I feel as though so long as you are working a stable job for the duration of the summer it will not really hurt your chances for next year, but if you have the opportunity to seek out a legitimate resume building internship I do not see why you wouldn't.

Yes, some people by junior year already have three internships, those guys are gonna get the best entry jobs/program

let me tell you that I did a prestigious degree but never did any internships and I regret it every fucking day I'm looking for work
