Stop with the "I play vidya hurr durr" shit. Many wealthy people play video games. Elon Musk loves them, as does Zuckerberg. It's a hobby to blow off steam, playing for a few hours a week won't hurt anyone

>Many wealthy people play video games. Elon Musk loves them, as does Zuckerberg. It's a hobby to blow off steam, playing for a few hours a week won't hurt anyone

This is propaganda by successful people to stop people from competing with them and becoming successful.

Also most of them play videogames AFTER becoming successful. Not during their process of becoming successful.

>if the richest man in he world does it, I can do it too and become like him

Also this would be like saying "Well Arnold Schwarzenegger smoked Marijuana, so surely it can't be bad/maybe even good for you!"

Just because someone successful does something doesn't make it a good choice.
There's rich people who gamble in casinos, but it does not mean gambling in casinos is a good option.

What are you talking about, go-i mean guy?

What is the source of your claims?
>>
>>1086486
he's been making these threads for a few months. in one of the earliest ones he talked about being a jew in new york and how he was frustrated with himself for not being able to quit videogames.

i think these threads are like a form of mental reinforcement for him because he can't face his own problems.

Read the fucking Gervais Principle you pleb. If you're good at a job you won't get promoted.

>Keeping huge sums of money on checking account for years while saving for something

This is pretty much me. I do it for a number of reasons. I guess the primary thing is that when I was learning about investing and everyone was suggesting holding value mutual funds for the long haul, I didn't. Turns out that if I'd invested that money when I was thinking about it, I'd have lost well over 10% of it by now since we're probably on the front end of another recession.

The other thing is that in spite of having a significant amount of liquid assets, I still have a negative net worth because of education loans. I'm currently on Obongo's income-based debt repayment plan that "promised" to discharge the balance after 10 years of working in the public sector and am trying to figure out if it's worth it to just stick it out for ten years or to keep saving and pay off the entire balance as quickly as possible. Paying $520 a month isn't going to be viable once I start having to pay the average rent/mortgage of $1000/month.

Videogames have had a significantly negative impact on my life

Why waste your time playing a game when you can read a new book or learn a new instrument?
>>
>>1088138
I'd suggest making more money.

Well, video games have actually made me successful. I always played them a lot, and then eventually I started making money with them. I've made millions of dollars from people who like to buy ingame virtual currency.
>>
>>1088243
can you send me one dollar? lol 1Hg6Qgma4KriBo12ouh1W92fGcCKD5pyKc
>>
>>1088243
yeah that's bullshit

You've made as much as many game companies in pure profit from their games? Lol
>>
>>1088178
Because not playing video games doesn't imply doing any of those other things. And learning new "productive" hobbies don't imply being successful in anything else.

This whole fucking thing is everyone misunderstanding correlation/causal relationships. Doing things successful people do wont' make you successful. Doing things unsuccessful people do won't make you unsuccessful.
>>
>>1088252
That's precisely the point.

That is a poor use of time.

The fact of the matter is that videogames are INHERENTLY designed to be harmful.

>i only play 2 hours a week!
yeah that's not true. Most popular(hell, all of them) are designed in such a way that you NEED to play a lot in order to progress anywhere in the game.
>>
Srsly tho, does /biz/ actually play videogames?

Lmao.

I stopped playing games in college, seven years ago. I still procrastinate ( I'm on /biz/, after all) but generally I'm much more productive and lead a richer life. If I spent all of my free time playing games, I wouldn't have landed a well paying sde job, would have weaker bonds with family and friends, wouldn't have time to cook, workout, hike, date, play the piano, etc.

Games are actually a fairly unhealthy vice.
>>
>>1088304
I still remember some of the best times I've ever had on em tho.

>TFW you'll never live the golden years of WoW with your bros again

But yeah they are terrible if you want to become successful

fucking agree man.. uninstalled csgo still procrastinate from time to time but more productive

You know nothing of autistic markets son. Some of those dumb toys gain a lot of value over time.

Going to have to second this, both of these posts

I'll never forget the stories and experiences I've had playing video games, but they just shouldn't be a significant part of an adult's life

Can't stress this enough desu. People fall for the landlord meme all the time, it even stopped being funny

Just pay it off. They can always change the public sector terms ten years from now.
