OK, so I will be meeting with an asian business man tomorrow who will potentially be buying a property from me. We have met on several occasions before, so we have established some rapport. However, I'm not 100% sure if he is buying so I don't want to go overboard. I think he is from Taiwan, but not completely sure. Should I get him a gift? If so, what and how much should I spend? Any other tips?

50$.

It's chinese new year, just wish him a happy chinese new year.

A gift would be patronising. And definitely don't do any weird bowing or kung fu handshakes like ive seen some americans do. It's cringy as fuck

Taiwanese are huge on gifts, even small, I woudnt stress it either way,

Found this on the internet, so it must be true.

Get him some nice fruit (make sure its the best of the best, taiwanese fruit standards are really high) or really nice biscuits in a gift box

Depends on whether he is coming in from another country. Don't give him something he won't be able to take across the border.
>>
Would wine be appropriate? If so, is there a certain kind and price I should look at?

Some really good spirits. Wine is a bit of a minefield and the guy will probably never drink it. Something like scotch or bourbon or cognac. Make sure its in a box.

there's a narrow window of gifts that would be appropriate and they're unlikely to yield much. too much risk, not enough return. wish him a happy new year and get to business.

It would depend. You don't want to go too expensive because then he would feel obligated to give you a gift of matching value in return.

It's a tough question because much of it will have to do with how old he is, whether he is traditional or modern, whether he is religious or not, and a bunch of other factors.

If you know for sure he's a a drinker, I would go with a fifth of a very good whisky (not cheap shit but something made in your country, something he couldn't get in his own country, and something that is quality)

So if I know very little about him other than that he is asian, about 60 years old, and wants to buy my factory? What would be a good, safe bet?
>>
>>1084121
I give this a high probability of being patronizing, insulting, or making you appear desperate. don't buy him shit dude, he's not your father in law.

>this is how you lose face in asian culture
>>
>>1084125

What if I just pick up doughnuts and coffee? Would that be cool?
>>
>>1084133
He probably doesn't like either of those things
>>
>>1084134

Why wouldn't he like either of those?
>>
>>1084140
Why are you so determined to appear desperate and servile?
>>
>>1084150

I just know that it is chinese new year and that they are a gift giving society. I know that some of them are very rigid about these things but others are not. Don't want to fuck up the whole thing from the start by getting it wrong.
