for most people it would be investing in the stock market over a long period of time, probably taking a value investing approach...

for most retail punters options, spreadbetting etc.. will cause them to lose money. Sure if you want to take a gamble that might pay off 10* over a short period of time then those instruments can be used for that... but unless you've got a good reason to make that bet, have a clear edge etc.. (which is unlikely for most) then you're basically just playing a -EV game
