Probably an Index Fund.

Soybean futures.

2k is not a lot of money to invest for 1-4 years. 10k is not a lot of money to invest for 1-4 years. 6% return on 10k over 4 years leaves you with just 12624.77.

You sound young. My suggestion, go take a memorable road trip with some friends. Start dollar cost averaging when you get your first professional job.

I would put it in a cheap yet profitable index fund. Only one that comes to mind is the VOO vanguard index fund. It's only really a good brokerage for long term because they charge you $5 per purchase there. Up to you but since you're so young I'd spend it on something worthwhile like going towards your education or something.

Do you have any you could suggest?

I've actually been looking at soybean futures. Very undervalued at the moment.

I'm 25, I'm in med school. The point is keeping my money in the bank is really not going to make a difference. I would rather have it work for me as I wait to get my degree. Thanks for the advice, but I want to be proactive.

My point is, 2k isn't enough $ to invest over such a small time horizon.

Great job on getting into med school. When you graduate and get your first gig there will not be very much time for extracurricular activities. Trust me, go have a little fun with that 2k over your breaks and go make some memories. You will be pulling in major bucks in short time.

I know (I hope). I'm just keen on making my money work for me. I see my friends moving money and I feel like I'm lagging behind.

OK with that in mind I'd put it all into a decent index fund. You need to do you research into which one. I imagine you have ridiculous hours but getting a part time job is probably also a good move.

This will be the most important advice for you, a future doctor:

-Don't ever try to keep up with the joneses.
-Try your best to avoid lifestyle inflation but definitely have some fun every now and then.

You will be wealthy.

Use it to pay down debt. You can't beat a guaranteed return of whatever your interest rate is. Another option is keeping in in savings so you don't get more debt when you need the money.
