Anon, there was a quant wizard on /biz/ once who recommended a few things to me. Yes, everyone outside of the box can just say "study financial engineering, which is true but most people cannot keep up with most lectures and books on it adequately. So I'd suggest brushing up on your math basics, yes math basics, and working your way up from there. At the same time you should be studying on the concepts of computer science. What is an algorithm blalbalba. Then move on to statistical modeling. After that, you should learn R/Python/and C++ language and then learn how to use MATLAB to test your models in.

If you study the foundations on how to do it, then you will be lead to books created by people who are competent in the subject.
