Hey /biz/, looking for some advice.

Biomed engineer and applied math major from a top school, doing a ms in cs. Working in consulting. I planned to get into biotech but I'm beginning to doubt that decision. I want to make a switch into algorithmic trading / quant finance. I have no finance experience but solid math/programming background. Gpa above 3.5 but not fantastic.

Is it unrealistic to think I could get a position in a prop trading firm? Is this a bad idea? Worried that I've been blinded by the prospect of making a lot of money and will give up a stable career for something I know nothing about.

Prop trading is a dying business but you don't need a finance background to do it, so you could. It's almost all commissions though.

To get in to quant stuff u will need a heavy math degree and maybe a little bit of computer stuff.

Computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, civil engineering can all lead to trading, but, to be a quant a phd is basically compulsory.
