Why do managers with no technical background get paid more than their skilled subalterns who know what the company actually does and create it? I can understand the manager earning more for the case of a sandwich shop, but let's say in IT, how is managing people and telling them what to do (which is just relaying orders from higher level managers) more difficult than coming up with new algorithms and being able to implement them? Ostensibly a manager carries "more responsibility" but in reality the onus is on the team to develop the product, and if they fail the people lower in the hierarchy bear the brunt of the responsibility by being downsized while the manager stays. This to me is just wrong. The manager is just a middleman. What do you think?

If thats the case why aren't you a manager instead of a worker bee?

My experience is that to be an effective manager there are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that you probably do not know about. Knowing how to effectively communicate is a big one that many lower people dont have. I can tell you that the social skills of people especially on 4chan is not of the highest level (normally). Also managers in many workplaces come from the floor and eventually get promoted so unless you know them personally I would say that most of the time they have previous experience at the lower levels because it better helps them understand operations.

It's not. Tell me why you aren't a manager again, OP?

I am a project manager of my own team, but I come from a technical background, I was a monkey for 6 years before I went ape.

It is not necessary to know the in and outs of creating a specific design, as a manager it is necessary to know how to create a finished product. you are bound by the deadline. at least in my experience that is the case.

Because they're talkers and if your company hierarchy is full of them then that's what they value.
