Hey /biz, what are your thoughts on investing in renewables? It's pretty much guaranteed that we're headed that way, but where do you think the most profit is going to be? Hydro, wind, or solar?
>>
Solar

Trust the Musk
>>
But looking at places like Sweden and Canada, the majority of their renewable energy comes from hydro. Is this because large-scale solar/wind projects haven't been very economical, but new investments can get them out of the lab?
>>
Both wind and solar are only profitable with subsidies. They are limited by not providing power 24/7 and not being able to easily scale the power output to consumption. Hydro and geothermal are only possible in certain areas of the world. If you want to invest in renewables invest in batteries.
>>
Storage is where the renewable money will be.

Storage

lithium currently is in shortage, due to the mass demand by china in their energy storage production. there was a great thread on /biz/ about it, maybe you'll find it in the archives.
>>
>>1024707
Unoriginal bastard.
>>
We're already experiencing a growth decline in renewables, Governments don't enough money to splash around on massive subsidies any more.

transmission and distribution is a much safer invest that doesn't bet on fringe future technologies.
>>
>>1024716
>since you think exclusively amerocentric
Nevada just passed a law for enabling development of distributed energy grids for industrial complexes - tl;dr energy storage good

I am not going into explaining China's demand and the things developing there, since I am certain people here could care less. DYOR

hehe

Whatever Bill Gates puts his money into.

>it's pretty much guaranteed that we're headed that way
Curious why you think this.
>>
>>1024771
Please no meme answers like, "we can't continue destroying the planet, etc"
>>
>>1023848
Wind wont happen because you would have to mow down mother nature to put those suckers up and no one will allow that. Solar is a problem as we cannot store the energy so its not as useful. We need to think Thorium in nuclear fission. Its all over most mines and it will give us enough energy that our heads would spin in amazement. Also, it gives us a chemical important for medicine and it also gives us precious metals. FK HYRDRO, WIND AND SOLAR! We already have the answer its just not going to be so profitable for the big dogs.

There was a guy on here a week ago that gave out a free tip on battery storage. It was still in its infancy; the technology started with a w. Does anyone here remember what he was referencing?
>>
>>1024854

What's wrong with hydro.

It's the only practical alternative energy- and the market share it has reflects that
>>
>>1024691
Yeah, this. See what government is pushing/subsidising and invest accordingly.
>>
>>1025215

So? If they subsidies it forever, there's no problem.

Who says they won't? Ethanol is Satan's work, and the government still subsidies it
>>
>>1024760
So... a thousand strippers g-strings?
>>
>>1024854
What are open plains.
What are offshore wind farms.
>>
Nobody mentioning the upcoming water crisis. LMAO.
>>
>>1025157
he wasn't talking about energy storage. he was mentioning weylian electrics that is still researched and could become applicable in the next 20 years
>>
>>1025265
The only people that will affect are third worlders, I.e. nothing of value was lost.
>>

you mean like from the toilet?
