What is the market like for translating? Is it a good thing to get into if you have to learn another language first?

Wat nou dood
It's a side gig for me, and it tends to be soulless work. Not sure how other translators operate, but mine is freelance, and because I translate Chinese to English I collaborate with a native speaker. We split it 60 (to me) 40 (to her) and she takes care of everything, communication with clients, getting us paid. All I do is hammer out the tranny and she checks for errors. Haven't done the math exactly, but I probably make $20/hr., which will increase the more experience I get because it will take me less time to translate each case.
