I have a question, /biz/, and I'm genuinly curious.

To you, what is the value of a dollar? How do you see it? What does it mean to you?

I grew up a poorfag and am in the process of getting my shit straight. Interested in what rich people teach their kids about the value of a single dollar.

My parents gave me a weekly allowance of half my age in dollars.

A single dollar is an increasingly worthless unit of exchanged backed by nothing.

I got a strap of $1 bills so I can buy lotto tickets for the next few months

So essentially I throw away $1 bills

It's filthy fiat jew imperialist currency, but grudginly useful/strong

Its a means to an end, value is based on what you can afford. If you are barely surviving its valuable. For the rich is some thing to gamble and further their riches.

I love goldfags like you who cite graphs like this, believing it's just self-evident and common sense that devaluation of currency is a bad thing. Why not even attempt to learn the economics necessary to support or refute your claims?

>It's bad for these unimportant reasons but good for all of these reasons that matter!

Gold's just a filthy metal bitcoin is the way of the future.

Dollars are like slaves. Make them work for you.

Dollars are your labor stored in paper form.

>There's no inflation under the gold standard
Why does this myth persist?

It's not so much a single dollar but a dollar a day set spending or habitual spending.

So if I want to retire I need enough money to cover my living expenses. Let's presume for the sake of ease that my entire nest egg is in mutual fund averaging 7% return and I reinvest 3% of this to hedge against inflation.

Thus , for every dollar a day that I have to spend to survive I need to have 9,125 dollars in my nestegg.

So something that costs 10 bucks a month (say Netflix , although I'd how close that really is) I need to save up about 3k

It's easier to not spend money than it is to earn money (I mean maybe at the level of one dollar that isn't true but it's a good mindset to have) , so if I can reduce repeated expenses and avoid even one time splurge I can escape the rat race that much sooner.
