My father is recommending that I start investing/diversifying the investments I do have

I'm still a student so I don't have much, but I figure now is the best time to save and invest while I don't have any real bills, and it can go a long way in the future.

as it is I have about $3000 in Trans-Canada pipe which I mostly want to keep as is (maybe put a bit more in since the stock is low atm) but I'm wondering what else I could invest in for the long term, or at least any investing tips for someone who's largely new.

I've seen programs like E-Trade to make it simpler but idk how reliable they are.

Your dad is kind of an idiot for telling you to "invest" when you have no income and are still focused on your education. Do you live in Canada? Throw shit into a TFSA for now til you graduate.

I'm not sure how it works in Canada, but if you're earning that income from self employment I think you could put it in an IRA.
