American Millennials Are Some Of The World's Least Skilled People, Study Finds

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/12/american-millennials-least-skilled-study_n_6852650.html
>>
>>1011563
Probably because most of us are falling into the college meme.
>>
>The results were shocking to researchers as American millennials were found to be the most educated generation ever, according to the study.
No shit. The amount of useless crap taught in all levels of schooling is unbelievable.
>>
American education outside of "insert a quarter of a million dollars for your degree here" private institutions are worthless, nothing surprising to see here.
>>
>>1011620
Those are pretty shit too.
>>
>>1011565
It isn't so much a college meme as a university meme. Tech schools are where you go to learn skills and they are immensely cheaper.

Let's be honest though, most millenials just want to sit behind a desk doing fuckall playing Farmville and candy crush all day while making $150k.

The only reason the millennials are useless is because they believe that they are entitled to jobs with high salaries that require no work.

This anon, >>1011567, makes a fantastic point as well. I'm in my last year of engineering school at an American university. If I didn't have to do this bullshit "well-rounded student" general education requirements then I'd be graduated by now and working for 2 years. It's retarded that I have to pay for classes that I could not care less for in order to graduate with a degree from an American university.

Honestly, if we could get rid of the general education requirements and only take classes towards your major then people could have master's degrees in 4 years instead of Bachelor's. In which case you could perhaps justify paying so much for school.
>>
>>1011563

Most students have to take 2 years of retarded electives that have nothing to do with their field of study. There's the argument that it makes you well rounded and allows you to explore your mind but once you actually take those classes (big 10 here, respected engineering/biz school) you see that they're mostly a waste of time and money.

I also think it has to do with students wanting to be spoon fed. Most public schooling is shit and they want to hold your hand, if it wasn't for AP classes I think I would've went insane. So a majority of the students think that it's A) go to school, B) get a degree, C) get a job and that life is just an easy check list when that's far from the truth.

And then you realize that the job/pay that they want is unrealistic, similarly to what >>391344739604 was talking about

I've read many articles about what hiring managers from f500 companies looked for and their biggest criticisms with millennials. The usual top 3 complaints were the lack of analytical, communication, and teamwork skills. No surprise there, in an environment where most students don't learn analytical or technical skills and where networking is at a minimal you'll get a group of people that have the least amount of skills.
>>
It's awesome. By being merely competent I am considered a god among millennials. Easy to get pay raises when everyone around you is borderline retarded.
>>
>>1011655
Step up familia I did it in 4 years. Though I agree that white "allies" want to add to that load hoping everyone will be like them. Some of those courses really helped me and you should make sure you try to take useful ones
>>
>>1011710
This.

Just the fact that you understand personal finance, read books and actually have productive hobbies(programming, investing, etc) already puts you in the top 2%.

Feels good senpai.
>>
>>1011655
>Honestly, if we could get rid of the general education requirements and only take classes towards your major then people could have master's degrees in 4 years instead of Bachelor's. In which case you could perhaps justify paying so much for school.

that is how it works in the UK, you star age 4 and finish general education at 16, you pick three subjects to study at 'advanced level' from 16 -18... so a wannabe engineer might pick mathematics, physics, chemistry...

when you apply to university you don't have major and minor subject that you chose later - you apply for a specific subject and get accepted to that university for that specific subject - some subjects will be more competitive than others.
>>
>>1011700
Big problem is that culturally teamwork is looked down up and communication is driven mainly through digital channels now. It doesn't help that we are now reaching a point where you may only talk to your direct reports through email.
>>
>>1011747
From what I can tell about the UK, your system seems to pump out office drones like nobody's business and your educational system is stifling.
>>
>>1011710
Gotta agree.
It was just a shitty summer job, but given I wasn't a retard who fucked up a task like cutting construction paper into letters for a sign or something like the other guy who was there with me did, I was automatically in favor with everyone and left the job with 50 extra dollars and a nice certificate.
>>
Saw an article that another big problem with schools is that many colleges are just trying to pander to wealthy students, so they jack up the prices and add a bunch of stuff that doesn't actually help the students, on top of a massive expansion of the school's bureaucracy coupled with massive raises to the top administration.
>>
As a non-mellenial, I think that the mellenials are dissed on pretty hard. This will pretty much happen to every generation. They either go to war 15-25 and everybody respects them, or they're just that "lazy bunch of do nothings who will never amount to anything".

Really, there's a point in your life where you need to figure out what you want to do with your life, and the vast majority of mellenials just happen to be there.

Think about that phrase I put in quotes 2 paragraphs ago: That's been said about Baby Boomers, Yuppies and Gen X'ers at one point, to name a few.

Get yourself out of right now and consider generational patterns. Realize that, eventually, millenials will amount to something and we need to just give them their space to live their 20's and grow (just as we all had).
>>
>>1011782
That's all fine and dandy until you realize that the millennials are the ones trying to turn people with serious mental issues (transgenders, and those other exotic genders) into the norm
>>
>>1011792
Yeah, and every boomer was a pot smoker who had sex with 5 partners every week and did LSD until they were in their 40's. There wasn't a single conservative hawk among that whole age group. And every muslim (all 1.8 billion) is a terrorist. And every Mexican is a fucking poor mooch, including Carlos Slim.
>>
>>1011794
>Millennial logic

Lmao
>>
>>1011795
Actually, it was the logic of the person I was responding to taken to the extreme. I doubt he was millennial, since he refers to "the millennials" the same way that a southern racist would refer to "the blacks" and a homophobe would refer to "the gays".
>>
>>1011782
I believe it's going to be very hard for us to do so though. Education is expensive and becoming more of a corporation than a form of education in some areas. On top of the huge cost, it's becoming more difficult to get a job, even if you have a degree. And if you made a mistake and somehow found that one collage that does offer an underwater basket weaving degree, you're fucked on getting an actually useful degree since you have the debt from that degree to take care of. There is also a huge wealth disparity not seen by previous generations that is making it harder just to live. That said, community colleges are really cheap and let you do all the gen ed for much less than a 4 year would. They also offer technical training, something some of us should consider.
>>
>>1011655
That's how it is in Europe. You choose your major straight away and only study it and subjects closely related to it. Less well rounded education but quicker and more efficient.
>>
Ive been a mechanic, meteorologist, and now I work at a hedge fund. BBA and working on a MBA in finance. Being able to use tools and use money makes me a god tier millennial.

I'm 28 and in the top 1% of wealth for my age. Feels good not to follow my moronic peers that can only blabber about inequality and Bernie Sanders. Oh well there is always opportunity at any given time

Millennials are realizing how retarded society truly is and that no matter what they do we're all getting throat fucked by corporations & governments. Most people are in debt and everyone seems okay with it. It's a trap.

It's all one giant trap. Get married? Nope not anymore because technology is switching up our behaviors faster than we can adapt properly. So lonely prevails in so many lives.

What obligation to push further nowadays? I congratulate those who do because they're brave enough to fall into that trap.
>>
>>1011828

People in the 1% don't give a shit about people below them. Capitalism is a pyramid structure where in order to get closer to the top you have to step on the face on the people below you.
>>
>>1011838
>Capitalism is a pyramid structure where in order to get closer to the top you have to step on the face on the people below you

And which system isn't?
>>
>>1011839

Every system ever created only works for so long before it collapses.
>>
>>1011840
Exactly.

But it's the inherent nature of people. Every single system is like that, although capitalism is the fairest of them all.
>>
>>1011844
>capitalism is the fairest of them all.

If Capitalism is the best we can do then we're fucked.

Unless it can somehow evolve out of it's 20th century design into the 21st. This system has lead to a small wealthy elite who essentially control every aspect of this planet because of owning the financial system.
>>
>>1011856
>This system has lead to a small wealthy elite who essentially control every aspect of this planet because of owning the financial system.

Capitalism gives me all that I need, I don't mind it. No one has yet to come up with a better system.
>>
>>1011782
>Think about that phrase I put in quotes 2 paragraphs ago: That's been said about Baby Boomers, Yuppies and Gen X'ers at one point, to name a few.
Gen X was mocked for being too greedy and too focused on work. No one called Gen X lazy or faulted their work ethic.

>And Yuppies aren't a generation.
>>
>>1011838

You mean provide a product or service that enhances the lives of everyone. Where do you come up with this "everyone is out to get me" mentality? Why are millennials always victims? You probably have the best opportunity that human beings have ever had and all you can do is bitch and blame others for your shortcomings

>>

>No one has yet to come up with a better system.

One will have to be created and I think it's gonna revolve around Silicon Valley creating it. I honestly think we're seeing this emergence right now in it's primitive state, especially when it comes to the new "Google Wallet" initiatives or the "Internet of Things" merging with cryptocurrencies.

Soon cars will be driving themselves where vehicle ownership will not be necessary. 3-D printing for small businesses which means manufacturing is greatly reduced in cost, and somewhere in all of this robotic automation will replace many peoples jobs.
>>
>>1011872
Yeah I'm sure that will happen...

Do retards like you actually believe this or are most of you just trolling?
>>
>>1011877

Yup, because everything will stay the same as it is now. Yep.
>>
>>1011872
Fuck off with that gay shit. Cryptocurrencies, 3-d printing, internet of things are all memes.

The real shit is biotechnology, leading to biofuels and biopahrma.
Biotech is what will wean the world off of petroleum and expensive drugs. If done right (ie without government regulation), it could finally get politicians off the dicks of the petroleum gods (sand ppl), get the corporations off the dicks of politicians, and get everyone else off the dicks of corporations.
>>
>>1011872
Just because the vehicle can drive itself doesn't mean people won't need to buy cars. That is easily in the top 3 most retarded things I've read on this website.

>>

How exactly is that any different from how things currently are?
>>
>>1011901
>How exactly is that any different from how things currently are?

.... is that a serious question? Using public transport is a hassle, riding along side others can become annoying, and public transportation only stops at dedicated locations. Dealing with taxi drivers is also annoying as fuck because they're usually foreigners who barely speak the language. Uber is alright I suppose because they'll pick you up just about anywhere but it still costs a shitload because of the novelty along with having to pay the drivers.

Driverless taxi services will solve all these problems. No more car insurance or worrying about filling up the tank or having to deal with shit traffic everyday.
>>
>>1011563
Wait, the youngest working age generation has the lowest skill set? No way!
>>
>>1011563
And it's allllll thanks to older politicians only doing something if it can stuff their pockets, government overreach on our primary education and the disaster of common core, and older university executives pandering to the "safe space" crowd and not actually teaching us how to be productive.

That's like parents who do a shitty job raising their children and then solely blame the child being evil if he commits crime.

I think you old fucks don't know how to take responsibility of your disasters.

>>
>>1012067
Yea but the problem is if you try to apply for a engineering position somewhere and your resume says you learned about engineering online it probably won't go over well

HOWEVER, I worked with a guy once that said both jobs he had worked at, including that particular job, during the interview process no one ever asked about his education or mentioned anything about it. So I'm guessing you could lie about it if you're brave enough.
>>
>>1012073
>Yea but the problem is if you try to apply for a engineering position somewhere and your resume says you learned about engineering online it probably won't go over well

Very true.

When I'm talking to college classmates, I'd say about 80% are extremely self centered (in the way they'll only listen to you when you're talking about them) and have a crazy victim mentality, whether it's regarding grades or even legal matters. The trick is to SUPPORT them, so they keep deluding themselves, therefore benefitting you in the long run.

Asians are very smart, but have shit physique

Blacks are dumber than a box of rocks, but they can run faster than a speeding bullet and leap over tall buildings with ease

You faggots assume that everyone has LEGAL access to the internet. I'm an American in America and I am legally prohibited from using the internet/computers for fuckall reason.

And I'm IT educated. :/ Thanks America!

Well that's what you get for being a felon

That's the scary thing. Even if you limit it to whites only the us still finishes at the bottom. They actually run this analysis in the study.

Serious question

Thanks anon, that is interesting. Thought it does just put whites barely below the average, so we can't be finishing at the bottom.

I'm particularly surprised by asians being so low.

The earth doesn't have enough vanadium (rare earth mineral) for this to work , we'd have to mine it from asteroids
>>
>>1012727
yeah but consider that it's comparing American whites to the other countries' ENTIRE populations, including their immigrant non-native language speaking scum

Not good when the absolute best the states has to offer is slightly worse than the average Eurotard

>Ive been a mechanic, meteorologist, and now I work at a hedge fund.

You got those jobs through connections or by having a handsome face and some HR cunt liked you because of that. You didn't do jack shit to earn those jobs, so stop lecturing other people to be more "productive" faggot. That's the only reasonable explanation, because those fields are so fundamentally different to each other, that you couldn't have gotten a college degree and interncuck your way to all of them. You are possibly as retarded as other millenials, but no one gives a shit, because your daddy gave you all those jobs or you just have a handsome face (which is the most efficient and time tested way to get free pussy, jobs, opportunities, popularity and even jobs for nothing)
>>
>>1012806
Ha

I did meteorolgy in the Air Force which anyone could do.

I got an internship at a hedge fund because no one else would work over the holidays. Ive done loads of shit work and now they hired me on full time.

My gi bill now pays for my MBA. I guess it was all handed to me because im a skeleton white boi. Keep crying
>>
>>1012809

The person you are replying to shares diction in common with a poster who often shitposts about 'millennials'. If he keeps baiting you, he is probably that guy and you're wasting your time.
>>
>>1012809
Not the guy you're replying to, but

I did infantry in the army. 100% tuition paid for my first 3 years of college and now I have 50% paid for through post 9/11. Graduate next December and I'll use gi bill to pay for part of my masters as well.

Busted my ass in EE school and now I'm probably gonna have an internship at a government contractor that designs antennas for satellites this summer.

If that falls through then I have a back up job doing driftwood salvage recovery to survive the summer until I start getting paid for university again

All this privilege sure is hard to hold

> internship at a hedge fund

You faggot just keep proving my point.
Hedge funds, investment banks and shit like that are the hardest places to get an internship at. There are literally thousands of people applying for those. Just accept the fact that you aren't special snowflake, yet you get special snowflake treatment for having a rich daddy or a pretty face.

>skeleton white boi

Handsome skeleton white boy*

>I did meteorolgy in the Air Force

Yet they picked you, out of all the bazillions of wagecucks, that probably applied for that shit.

>>1012813

Good looking people get free shit and no shit for it all the time, stop deluding yourself.

>>1012853 again,

Sometimes it's not even about looking handsome, but "trustworthy" or "pleasant" or some shit. If you looked like this nigga on picrelated.jpg, then no one would have hired you on the positions you were hired, even if you discount the neck tattoo.
>>
>>1012863
I hope someday I'm in a position to hire someone just so I can say no because of their tatts

>>1012870
you wouldn't even hire this white boi if he wore a suit and never even knew tattoos existed.

>boommers were able to hop into the workforce ass teenagers and were given on-the-job training
>millennials are expected to go to school for 16+ years to get a chance at getting an entry level position
>only have time to work shitty part time jobs like mcdonalds or a cashier
>boomers are surprised they have no applicable work skills

WELL NO FUCKING SHIT WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EXPECT? Im a Canadian in trades making double what most of my friends with degrees are making right now btw, but this just seems like common sense. Employers today literally want to have their cake and eat it to, and expect people to be employees of the year right out the gate. It doesnt work like that, people that start new jobs that have any degree of skill required to do them suck at them at the start, you can't just be great at something immediately. Skills are learned, and the only way to really learn is to actually do it, not just read about doing it in a textbook, its not just instinct
>>
>>1012727
In official U.S. population statistics Asian is used to refer to EVERYONE in Asia. Pakistanis, Saudis, Chinese, Indians, and Iranians are all considered "Asian".
>>
>>1012904
Well Indians and Chinese are both super well performing and even the lowest in that bracket tend to only export high-performing immigrants to the US, so I still find it surprising.
>>

this,

just started working. I feel like i know nothing of what I'm doing, yet my boss & colleagues are praising me for finally having a newcomer being competent

This

Plus higher education propaganda has ruined a ton of kids by allowing them to fool themselves into thinking that you can read your way into success. Another part is the stagnation of wages and increase in real inflation of living expenses, creating a lot of pressure for parents to push for higher paying jobs in college, when in reality their kids are most likely wasting time partying and getting into debt reading instead of making business connections/learning how to manage and deal with people/learning a tradeskill etc where even a fast-food job would teach more practical skills instead of everyone trying to go for a dream job and jumping into a major immediately.

There's the factor of supply and demand as well, since a lot more people go for higher education, every single degree is worth less and the price of education will skyrocket in proportion to the demand.

All of these situations along with the ease of life in 2015 work against most millennials becoming decent human beings instead of retarded indebted victims who balk at challenges and expect everything to be delivered on a silver platter.
